Patent number: 10217479Abstract: A magnetic recording head positioning assembly includes a coarse travel carriage secured to and spaced away from each of a front end assembly and head assembly via sandwiched fine guiding flexures and isolation flexures. The fine guiding flexures permit relative movement between the coarse travel carriage and head assembly. The isolation flexures permit relative movement between the coarse travel carriage and front end assembly. The fine guiding and isolation flexures thus isolate the coarse travel carriage from the front end assembly and head assembly. The assembly further includes dampers sandwiched between the coarse travel carriage and isolation flexures to limit movement of the isolation flexures.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2017Date of Patent: February 26, 2019Assignee: Oracle International CorporationInventors: Darryl Wayne Yeakley, Steven G. Suttle, William Joseph Vanderheyden

Patent number: 10054409Abstract: The present invention is an improved arrowhead for bowhunting. Furthermore, it is an arrowhead with improved blade strength and blade retention. A ferrule is included in the arrowhead and is used to connect the blades to the arrow shaft. The ferrule has an open slot and a closed slot perpendicular to each other which receive a primary blade and a secondary blade. The two blades interlock by the use of notches along the edges of the two blades that fit together within the open slot. The primary blade has an angle at the tip that is larger than the angle on the remainder of the primary blade improving the strength at the tip of the arrowhead.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2017Date of Patent: August 21, 2018Inventor: William Joseph Vanderheyden

Patent number: 9171566Abstract: Embodiments include systems and methods for buckling in a loader assembly of a tape storage drive. Some implementations translate driving forces of an elevator of the loader assembly into driving forces that act on a pusher plate of a buckling mechanism in both buckling and unbuckling directions. For example, a plate interface can couple the pusher plate with the elevator in a manner that translates rotational motion of the elevator's drive gear into a lateral driving force that drives the pusher plate between its home and buckling positions. Certain implementations also include a home holding mechanism for removably securing the pusher plate in the home position when the elevator is in its unloaded position.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2014Date of Patent: October 27, 2015Assignee: ORACLE INTERNATIONAL CORPORATIONInventors: William Joseph Vanderheyden, Joshua Adrian Hursh, Jonathan Zeller Oster, Frederick Patton Mondale, Daniel Mark Baiada, Benjamin Joseph Krempasky, William Jacob Derryberry

Patent number: 7163170Abstract: An apparatus and method for controlling the movement of an elevator mechanism in a tape drive system. The mechanism of the present invention employs a tachometer to detect the magnetic decoupling of a cartridge from a cartridge reel motor. A holding torque is placed on the cartridge reel motor. A voltage or current ramp is supplied to the elevator mechanism, wherein the elevator mechanism raises and magnetically decouples the tape cartridge from the cartridge reel motor. As the coupling force is broken, the torque placed on the cartridge reel motor causes the motor to turn. The tachometer detects the magnetic decoupling of the cartridge from the cartridge reel motor by sensing the angular displacement of the motor. In response, the controller decreases the voltage or current ramp to adapt to the load reduction on the elevator mechanism, and thereby more smoothly continue the elevator motion.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2004Date of Patent: January 16, 2007Assignee: Storage Technology CorporationInventors: Robert Olin Wyman, William Joseph Vanderheyden, John Douglas Willems, Jr.

Patent number: 6955322Abstract: For use in a media tape cartridge reel, a hub and flange assembly including a hub and a flange. The hub having a first lip and a second lip at opposite ends of the hub. The flange is integral with the hub at the first lip, the hub includes an inner coupling having a hole at the center, and the inner coupling is offset towards the first lip where integrated with the hub.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2003Date of Patent: October 18, 2005Assignee: Storage Technology CorporationInventor: William Joseph Vanderheyden
