  • Patent number: 10612323
Abstract: A system and method for building and handling oilfield tubular stands while drilling operations are simultaneously and independently occurring with one drilling deck, one derrick, and one rotary system. An offline guided path horizontal to vertical arm lifts and moves in the same plane tubulars stored horizontally on the catwalk and positions the tubulars vertically directly into a preparation hole for assembling and disassembling tubular stands while online drilling operations are simultaneously being conducted. A stand arm lifts and lowers the tubulars into and out of the adjustable preparation hole, and transports the tubulars for storage to an auxiliary tubular racking station in the upper part of the derrick. A bridge racker crane moves tubular stands from the auxiliary tubular racking station to the top drive or another tubular racking station.

  • Publication number: 20140360726
Abstract: Methods and systems generate steam for injection into a formation in order to facilitate oil recovery and also capture carbon dioxide in a recovery unit that receives flue gas exhaust from such steam generation. The methods and systems integrate various process streams from and to the carbon dioxide recovery unit. Such integration provides resulting benefits associated with efficiency and/or carbon dioxide avoidance.

  • Publication number: 20140246196
Abstract: Methods and systems generate steam for thermal oil recovery, such as a steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) operation. Feedwater is first pressurized to a pressure above that desired for steam injection in the SAGD operation before being heated to avoid at least some nucleate boiling. After being throttled, the local boiling regime is beyond the nucleate boiling regime due to the local pressure drop and the enhanced mixing caused by the throttling process. Two-phase liquid may continue through the boiler generating higher quality steam.

  • Publication number: 20140197072
Abstract: Methods and systems relate to upgrading hydrocarbons, such as bitumen, by contacting the bitumen with flue gas of oxy-combustion. Quenching a mixture formed of the bitumen and the flue gas controls conversion of the bitumen. Limited size and amount of equipment needed enables employing such upgrading at production fields to facilitate making the bitumen transportable by pipeline without relying on diluents.

  • Publication number: 20130014709
Abstract: Embodiments relate to production of hydrocarbons from an underground formation. More specifically, embodiments relate to a system and method for generating steam for heavy hydrocarbon production process. The indirect steam generation system uses moving hot solids (e.g. sand, metal spheres, etc) to produce steam from non-treated (dirty) boiler feed water. The solids are then transported to another vessel (e.g.combustor) where they are reheated and cleaned of contaminants before being recycled back to the boiler to produce more steam.

  • Publication number: 20120190292
Abstract: An enclosure houses heat-producing equipment and includes an air conditioner, a fan, and at least one controller for controlling the air conditioner and the fan. The controller runs the air conditioner when a temperature of the interior is greater than or equal to an on temperature and turns the air conditioner off when the temperature of the interior is less than or equal to an off temperature. If the ambient temperature outside the enclosure is less than the off temperature and the air conditioner is off, the controller turns the fan on until the temperature of the interior is less than the off temperature by a first amount and then turns the fan off. Also a method for controlling the temperature of an enclosure using an air conditioner and a fan.
