    Abstract: A system for encoding digital data to be transmitted by way of the scan lines of a television video signal includes interface circuitry for receiving data from a number of input devices each operating at a particular data rate, and encoding processing circuitry which takes the data received by the interface circuitry and arranges it into separate data groups wherein each group corresponds to the particular input device which originated the data. The data groups are then inserted, with the aid of timing circuitry, into corresponding data channels defined in a selected scan line of the video signal. Accordingly, the system makes efficient use of the allowable bandwidth of the video signal by allowing data originating from a higher data rate device to be inserted into the same scan line which carries information originating from a lower data rate device.

Also, a data channel bit map is defined over a portion of the selected scan line, and data identifying each of the input devices which is providing data to the interface circuitry is inserted into the data channel bit map.

    Abstract: An arrangement for providing digital encoding and decoding of information, which encoding is performed on a standard TV video signal, is disclosed. The encoding scheme utilizes the four standard signals R, G, B, Y which are available from any color transmission system. These four signals are the luminance information, Y, the red chroma excitation level, R, the green chroma excitation level, G, and the blue chroma excitation level, B. The encoding arrangement utilizes the color subcarrier (3.579545 MHz) as a reference to derive a clock at 1/3 of the subcarrier frequency and a clock at 1/6 of the subcarrier frequency. Clocks at these frequencies are used to modulate the luminance and the chroma information. Apparatus for encoding and synchronized decoding are disclosed. The suggested portion, in the television signal, for the encoded data is within the vertical interval.

    Abstract: A device for providing various kinds of video edge information for character video is disclosed. The all-digital device employs a plurality of scan-line length shift registers which function as delay means. The shift registers are series-connected and receive the digital video information. The outputs of the shift registers and the "present" video information are supplied to short-duration delay devices, e.g. 4 bit shift registers. By appropriately combining the outputs of the short-duration delay devices, a character video and an edge signal are produced. Digital inputs and appropriate gating means can produce a variety of enhanced character fonts.

    Abstract: A circuit arrangement for developing composite video signals used in color TV transmission using digital techniques. A plurality of N color select channels are gated by appropriate digital-type control signals. Each of the channels includes means for establishing the chroma amplitude and phase of the signal associated with a particular color. The phase and amplitude of each of the channels, which represents chrominance information, is developed by time shifting, gating, and phase shifting the basic 3,579,545 hz square wave. The chrominance information of each channel is combined at an appropriate LC filter. Luminance amplitude information is separately developed for each channel. Chrominance information, luminance information, and other video information (composite sync, combined video) are resistively added at a common node summing point. Other gating signals are also utilized so that the summed signal represents full chroma transmission information, such as is necessary for a standard TV signal.
