Patent number: 9438460Abstract: A method of transmitting data may include converting a stream of serial data bits into a set of parallel quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) symbols. The method may additionally include applying a partial discrete Fourier transform-spread technique to transform a block of low-frequency subcarriers into a single-carrier QAM signal. The single-carrier QAM signal may bear information of a first subset of QAM symbols from the set of parallel QAM symbols. The method may additionally include transforming one or more remaining QAM symbols to form one or more subcarriers. Each of the one or more subcarriers may bear information of a corresponding QAM symbol from the one or more remaining QAM symbols. The method may additionally include generating a hybrid signal that includes the single-carrier QAM signal and the one or more subcarriers. The method may additionally include transmitting the hybrid signal.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 2015Date of Patent: September 6, 2016Assignee: FINISAR CORPORATIONInventors: William Ling, Ilya Lyubomirsky

Patent number: 8884452Abstract: A sun shade or light guide generates electricity via a wind-driven movable element, such as a turbine, which drives an electrical generator/alternator. The turbine and/or a fan may be interposed between shade elements for driving one or more generators. The generator may be driven directly or may be mechanically coupled to the movable element. Electricity produced by the generator may be stored in a battery and or used immediately.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2012Date of Patent: November 11, 2014Assignee: Alcoa Inc.Inventors: William J. Patent number: 4994898Abstract: A color television or video system for processing signals from a television camera, in which a number of different signals corresponding to images of different colors give rise to different color partial images superimposed on the television screen to form a single full color image. The signals are processed so that the partial images superimposed on the screen correspond to images seen by the camera at time separated by predetermined intervals, so that the partial images of an object moving relative to the camera are displaced relative to one another on the television screen to give a stereoscopic effect when the different images are presented to different eyes of the viewer. To give an optimum effect, the displacement of the partial images should be in a direction appropriate to the direction of horizontal movement in the screen.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1989Date of Patent: February 19, 1991Assignee: Aspex LimitedInventors: William Ling, Robert J. Taylor, Glynne R. Lancaster

Patent number: 4963015Abstract: A method of recording an image of a scene onto cinematographic color film comprises forming a number of successive partial images through a single lens system onto each single frame of the film, the successive partial images being recorded in light of different characteristics, for example different colors. The film is projected using a conventional projector, and when viewed through appropriate filters, gives a stereo scopic effect. To get an optimum effect, the sequence in which the images are recorded should be appropriate to the predominant direction of horizontal movement in the scene. Accordingly in one form of the invention, each image is divided into a number of areas, each area in successive images being recorded in light of different characteristics, and each image having different areas recorded in light of different characteristics.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1989Date of Patent: October 16, 1990Assignee: Aspex LimitedInventor: William Ling

Patent number: 4934824Abstract: A method of recording an image of an object onto cinematographic color film comprises forming a number of successive images of the object through a single lens system onto each frame of the film, the successive images being recorded in light of different characteristics, for example different colors. In a preferred embodiment, each frame of the film is exposed successively to light of two or three different colors. The film is projected using a conventional projector, and when viewed through spectacles consisting of two appropriate filters gives a stereoscopic effect. The method can be used to produce a film which can also be viewed without spectacles, and is found to give enhanced sharpness and color saturation. The invention also includes a moving film camera having a mechanism for interposing a number of filters in the optical path successively during exposure of each frame so that successive images are overlaid on each frame.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1989Date of Patent: June 19, 1990Assignee: Aspex LimitedInventor: William Ling
