  • Patent number: 9027405
Abstract: A method and system for ultrasonic inspection of an axle is disclosed. An ultrasonic probe and wedge are placed on the radial surface of an outboard journal of the axle and an ultrasonic scan is directed toward the inboard journal, wherein the devices mounted on the inboard journal remain mounted during the ultrasonic scan.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 20, 2012
Date of Patent: May 12, 2015
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Anand Hasmukh Desai, Garrett John Vidak, Thomas William Lute, Jr.
  • Patent number: 8833169
Abstract: This disclosure describes embodiments of a robotic inspection system that uses a pair of multi-axis robotic devices to perform an ultrasonic scan of a part. Each of the multi-axis robotic devices can comprise an end effector that can transmit and/or receive an ultrasonic signal to perform the ultrasonic scan. In one embodiment, the robotic inspection system includes a linear slide assembly that can translate the multi-axis robotic devices independently from one another on either side of the part.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 9, 2011
Date of Patent: September 16, 2014
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Thomas William Lute, Jr., Brent William Shoffner

  • Publication number: 20110119918
Abstract: A chuck and a chuck system, and a method for processing a toroidal structure such as a tire carcass. The carcass includes an internal circumference and tapered ends. The chuck system comprises a plurality of chucks wherein each chuck includes a circumferential or substantially circumferential external surface and a plurality of friction reducing members positioned on the external surface. The friction reducing members are positioned to engage the internal circumference of the toroidal structure such as a tire. The method of processing a tire carcass includes positioning the tire carcass on fixed diameter chucks having friction reducing members on the external surface.
