Publication number: 20230289430Abstract: Disclosed herein is a technique for managing permissions associated with the control of a host device that are provided to a group of wireless devices. The host device is configured to pair with a first wireless device. In response to pairing with the first wireless device, the host device grants a first level of permissions for controlling the host device to the first wireless device. Subsequently, the host device can receive a second request from a second wireless device to pair with the host device. In response to pairing with the second wireless device, the host device can grant a second level of permissions for controlling the host device to second wireless device, where the second level of permissions is distinct from the first level of permissions.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 18, 2023Publication date: September 14, 2023Inventors: Bob BRADLEY, William M. Patent number: 11722753Abstract: Receiving and processing out-of-band (OOB) data along with a media stream is disclosed. The received OOB data can be extracted from an OOB data stream and correlated with the media stream using timestamps. Display and other operations can then be performed when a timestamp of the OOB data matches a current timestamp of the media stream. In addition, timestamp notification requests can be received and processed such that when the current timestamp of the media stream matches a requested timestamp, a notification can be transmitted, and data can be received in response to the notification.Type: GrantFiled: February 12, 2019Date of Patent: August 8, 2023Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: William M. Bumgarner, Blake Seely, Christopher L. Oklota, Dale A. Taylor, Eswar Priyadarshan

Publication number: 20210406886Abstract: A device in a payment transaction handoff system may include at least one processor configured to receive a request to perform a payment transaction and identify, using a first communication protocol, a respective device identifier of each of a plurality of proximate devices. The at least one processor is configured to select, based at least in part on a payment factor, a default payment device from the plurality of proximate devices. The at least one processor is configured to transmit, via a second communication protocol, a message to perform the payment transaction, the message comprising the device identifier of the default payment device. In one or more implementations, a first device of the plurality of proximate devices may be associated with a first user account and a second device of the plurality of proximate devices may be associated with a second user account, different from the first user account.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 13, 2021Publication date: December 30, 2021Inventors: Bob BRADLEY, Marc J. Patent number: 11190856Abstract: Time-based events and other metadata that can be added to a media stream to enable downstream systems to enhance the viewing experience are disclosed. The events are given time attributes that establish their location in the media stream so that regardless of where the playhead is located within the media stream, the events that are active at that point in time can be identified and synchronized with the playhead. In addition, a master clock can be used to update a stream timeline associated with the media stream to account for differences between the expected and actual duration of advertisements inserted into the media stream.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2019Date of Patent: November 30, 2021Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: William M. Patent number: 10614857Abstract: In some implementations, a computing device can calibrate media playback channels for presenting media content through a media system by determining the media propagation latency through the media system. For example, the computing device can send calibration content (e.g., audio data, video data, etc.) to various playback devices (e.g., playback channels) of the media system and record a timestamp indicating when the calibration content was sent. When the playback devices present the calibration content, a sensor device (e.g., remote control device, smartphone, etc.) can detect the presentation of the calibration content. The sensor device can send calibration data (e.g., media samples that may include the calibration content and/or a timestamp indicating when the media sample was detected by the sensor device) to the computing device. The computing device can determine the propagation latency (e.g., presentation delay) based on the calibration data received from the sensor device.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 2018Date of Patent: April 7, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Langford M Wasada, Vijay Sundaram, William M Bumgarner, Daniel H Lloyd, Christopher J Sanders, Sean A Ramprashad, Sriram Hariharan, Jarrad A Stallone, Johannes P Schmidt, David P Saracino, Gregory R Chapman

Patent number: 10430080Abstract: The embodiments set forth techniques for managing storage space in user devices. A storage space manager can be configured to receive a request to increase an available amount of storage space within the user device, identify applications where at least a portion of the application's associated data can be deleted to increase the available storage space, determining particular applications whose identified associated data should be deleted, and causing the associated data to be deleted. According to some embodiments, applications managed by the storage space manager are not adapted to manage storage space themselves. Instead, these applications can be registered to the storage space manager and can be grouped into subsets that share sections of storage space within the user device. Moreover, the storage space manager can be a subsystem storage space manager that interfaces with a higher-level system storage manager that orchestrates storage space management within the user device.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 2015Date of Patent: October 1, 2019Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Stephen Richard Lewallen, William M. Bumgarner, David A. Pound, Matthew D. Ricketson
