    Abstract: A system for evaluating the head-up display aperture of a vehicle windshield with respect to established optical standards, independently of the projection system with which it is to be utilized. A fixture is provided for mounting a windshield in a predetermined position. An object plate having a series of accurately spaced parallel slits therethrough is positioned so that a light source positioned behind the object plate directs a series of narrow elongated light beams corresponding to the slits against the interior surface of the windshield within the display area. A line scan camera array system scans the display area and produces signals indicative of the apparent positions of the primary and secondary images of the beams reflected by the opposite surfaces of the windshield. The signals are transmitted to and stored within a computer system as a measured data base or map.

    Abstract: A distributor beam for depositing coating material on the surface of a sheet of glass includes a plenum for each gas to be mixed. The plenums are surrounded by a cooling fluid duct and heating elements are provided for temperature control. Theremocouples generate signals representing actual temperatures and the heaters are controlled to maintain an optimum temperature for the gases as they flow from the plenums through a mixing chamber to the surface of the glass sheet which is located below an outlet from the mixing chamber. Fastener means apply increased clamping pressure to the beam structure as the temperature increases to increase the rate of heat transfer to the cooling fluid.

    Abstract: This disclosure is directed to a heat reflective glazing including a glass sheet having two generally planar parallel surfaces or sides with a multilayer coating on one of the side, and a method of producing such glazing. The side of the glass sheet having the multilayer coating thereon is designated as the film or coated side while the other side is designated as the glass side of the glass sheet. The multilayer coating comprises a first silicon-containing coating formed directly on the glass surface, a titanium nitride-containing coating overlying the first coating, a second silicon-containing coating covering the titanium nitride-containing coating, and an optional abrasion resistant coating, e.g., comprising tin oxide, on the second silicon-containing coating. The process for producing the coatings is a chemical vapor deposition process preferably carried out during the production of glass by the float process.

    Abstract: A distributor beam for depositing coating material on the surface of a sheet of glass includes a plenum divided by a septum for separating different coating gases. Outlets for the gases are connected to an inlet to a mixing chamber for separating and redirecting the flow of the gases to thoroughly mix them into a coating material. A finger baffle having two sets of alternating finger elements extends across the width of the mixing chamber. Each finger element has one end closer to the plenum outlet than an opposite end. The plenum is surrounded by a cooling fluid duct and heating elements are provided for temperature control. Thermocouples generate signals representing desired temperatures and the heaters are controlled to maintain an optimum temperature for the gases as they flow from the plenum to the surface of the glass sheet which is located below an outlet from the mixing chamber.
