    Abstract: Disclosed is a method of assembling a backplane connector subassembly for a module of a modular energy system. The backplane connector subassembly physically and electrically connects at least two modules stacked on top of one another. The method includes providing a back panel defining an inner surface, attaching a first support member to the inner surface of the back panel, attaching a second support member to the inner surface of the back panel, attaching the upstream connector to the back panel by sliding a first mating hole defined in the upstream connector onto the first support member, and attaching the downstream connector to the back panel by a sliding a second mating hole defined in the downstream connector onto the second support member. The first support member is configured to support an upstream connector. The second support member is configured to support a downstream connector.

    Abstract: The conventional monocoque missile ordnance section is replaced by a compte sheet stringer design. The composite sheet stringer design consists of a full-length, filamentary composite outer shell attached to stringers. Bending and axial loads are carried by the stringers while the outer shell will resist shear loads. The forward part of the ordnance section is devoted to the warhead. Here, fragment material would be sandwiched between the stringers, the outer shell, and possibly a filamentary composite inner shell. Fragment options include discrete fragments, plates, or rods. The aft part of the ordnance section would be available for fuzing assemblies. The composite ordnance section is connected to the rest of the missile through end joints rigidly attached to the outer composite shell and stringers.

    Abstract: An improved fragmentable warhead of modular construction for a missile and he like, that is generally made up of an intermediate warhead missile section and an explosive cartridge. The cartridge is selectively removable from the missile section thereby permitting the missile to be without an explosive charge until the missile is ready for tactical use. Moreover, the cartridge is of composite construction such that the outer shell of the cartridge is advantageously composed of an admixture of a suitable resin and a graphite material. By reason of this admixture the shell is not only of thin wall construction and of sufficient strength for handling the cartridge during storage and assembly, but also has sufficient electric characteristics so that the cartridge will not have electrostatic buildup that would detonate its explosive during handling and storage of the cartridge prior to assembly to a missile section.
