  • Patent number: 5835716
Abstract: The invention is a method for brokering carrier capacity. The method comprises a dual path; one path that allows entry into a data processing system of available carrier capacity which is comprised of a list of parameters which define that capacity, and the second path which allows access to that capacity. Each entry point to the system has data entry means for either entering carrier capacity or entering a request for available routes, or both. Available capacity entries are confirmed, saved in a transportation database, and assigned a pre-transaction code. Path two involves entering a request for available capacity by defining a requested route based upon a list of parameters. The system compares available capacity with the requested route to determine whether or not a match exists. The system operator selects an appropriate matched entry which must then be confirmed. Upon confirmation, selected matches are saved to a transaction database and assigned a transaction code.

  • Patent number: 5724524
Abstract: The invention is a method and system for listing and brokering a commodity and its financial derivatives. The method identifies a plurality of characteristics of a particular commodity, and then enters those characteristics into the database of a data processing system utilizing a real-time clock. An exchange market for the commodity is established based upon a pre-selected set of its characteristics; and, after a market price for the commodity has been set, a class (or classes) of financial derivatives is established together with a financial exchange market for those derivatives. The characteristics of the derivatives comprise: a common descriptive link between varied commodity types; a contract length that runs from the purchase date of the contract to the performance date for the commodity; and, a contract price.

  • Patent number: 5469362
Abstract: Method and apparatus for monitoring the dispatching of mail and to coordinate the production of mail with common carrier dispatch schedules. The mail is produced in a sequence that is intended to meet the dispatch schedule of common carriers. The movement of mail is monitored and the scheduling of mail production is altered if consistent mail delivery irregularities are determined.

  • Patent number: 5446667
Abstract: A system and method for reducing the amount of mail that is submitted to a local post office and reducing the effort required by a local post office. A mailer sorts mail and separates local mail from non local mail, identifies the destination of the non local mail and puts the same in a tray in accordance with the destination thereof. The mail destined for each destination is processed in accordance with the departure time of a transportation system so that the mail will be received just-in-time by a common carrier. The non local mail is then forwarded to the common carrier by the mailer and the common carrier delivers the mail to a transport vehicle destined for a postal distribution center.

  • Patent number: 5388049
Abstract: A system and method for providing security to value mail. A mailer produces mail in accordance with a mail list and determines the quantity of mail and weight thereof. A dispatch and routing tag is printed with the destination information, number of mail pieces and weight of the mail. The weight of the mail, number and expected time of arrival are checked at different locations of travel. The mailer and the post office are notified if there is a discrepancy in the number of mail pieces, in the weight of the mail or in the arrival time of the value mail.
