  • Patent number: 10859695
Abstract: Embodiments relate to noncontact determination of nonlinearities. Initially, a first and second primary signal are preconditioned to produce a first and second tone capable of reaching a target granular media. Using a sound source, the first and second primary signals are emitted such that the first and second primary signals combine in a nonlinear fashion in the target granular media to produce low frequency acoustic tone that is a difference between the first and primary signals. An acoustic pulse is received by an acoustic receiver, and a quadratic nonlinearity coefficient and an acoustic pressure field are determined based on the acoustic pulse. At this stage, a sediment shear strength of the granular media is correlated to the quadratic nonlinearity coefficient to generate a shear strength lookup table.

  • Patent number: 8868268
Abstract: System and method for navigating an unmanned undersea vehicle (UUV) using three-dimensional acoustic reflectivity data sets and a beam steered downward looking sonar capturing sub-bottom features and creating three-dimensional representations to compare with the reflectivity data sets to general navigation corrections. Acoustically senses and exploits sub-bottom features for navigation of UUVs that can provide more reliable navigation than using surface features alone, since much of the sea floor is flat (e.g. on continental shelves and abyssal plains).

  • Patent number: 7306403
Abstract: A self contained heated underwater diving suit having an inner liquid impervious yieldable sheet. An outer liquid impervious yieldable sheet is connected to the inner sheet. The inner sheet to the outer sheet forming a cavity therebetween. A silicon gel heating element is disposed within the cavity. A heating controller is electrically connected to the silicon gel heating element for controlling the heating of the silicon gel heating element.

  • Patent number: 4726602
Abstract: A hand truck comprising a main frame which is supported by a plurality of wheels on one end and has a handle on the other end is disclosed. The main frame is provided with platforms which extend the load bearing surface of the main frame. Each of the platforms is provided with side members which extend outwardly from the surface of said platforms. Each of the side members in turn have a toe plate extension which is adapted to engage and attach to a toe plate which extends outwardly from the main frame on the side opposite from where the wheels are supported. The platforms, the side members, the toe plate and the toe plate extensions combine to form a three-sided load carrying compartment for handling bulky freight such as loaf bread and the like. Swivel rollers may be provided on the underside of the toe plate for allowing lateral movement of the hand truck.
