  • Patent number: 5128300
Abstract: A novel extruded catalyst and process use thereof is disclosed. The catalyst comprises a refractory inorganic oxide and halogen, platinum-group metal, and Group IVA(14) metal components, wherein the Group IVA(14) metal is homogeneously dispersed within a bed of catalyst particles relative to catalysts of the prior art. Utilization of this catalyst in the reforming of hydrocarbons results in significantly improved selectivity to the desired gasoline product.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 25, 1991
Date of Patent: July 7, 1992
    Assignee: UOP
Inventors: Tai-Hsiang Chao, William M. Targos, Mark D. Moser

  • Patent number: 4714693
Abstract: A reverse micelle impregnant solution comprising a hydrocarbon solvent, a surfactant having both polar and nonpolar characteristics and a metal ion containing water core wherein the concentration of said metal ion in said water core is greater than 0.1 moles/liter. The reverse micelle is prepared by first dissolving a metal compound in water. In order to maintain a minimum water core diameter a small amount of the aqueous solution is then added to a surfactant/hydrocarbon solution to form the reverse micelle impregnant solution. Metals contemplated include the platinum metals and Group VIII metals. The surfactant may be nonionic, anionic or cationic or any combination thereof. A reverse micelle solution containing co-surfactants and/or co-metals is also contemplated.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 3, 1986
Date of Patent: December 22, 1987
    Assignee: UOP Inc.

  • Patent number: 4714692
Abstract: A catalyst composition for synthesis gas conversion comprising a ruthenium metal component deposited on a support carrier wherein the average metal particle size is less than about 100 A. The method of manufacture of the composition via a reverse micelle impregnation technique and the use of the composition in a Fischer-Tropsch conversion process is also disclosed.
