  • Patent number: 11418022
Abstract: An active inrush current limiter and method of limiting inrush current actively monitor line voltage and voltage drop across a current limiting resistance in a manner that eliminates the impact of fluctuations of line voltage on the decision of when to close a relay and bypass a current limiting resistance between the AC source and a group of power supplies. The active inrush current limiter includes a microcontroller connected to control the electronic switch and relay. The microcontroller is configured to sample the source AC power and detect a pattern of current flow through the electronic switch and current limiting resistance. A program executed in the microcontroller includes calculations that determine when to close the relay and bypass the current limiting resistance by detecting changes in power flow through the current limiting resistance that reliably correspond to a time when the capacitors in the power supplies have completed charging.

  • Patent number: 10814365
Abstract: Provided herein are systems and methods for containing a viscous material, such as coolant, applied to cool a roll or a roll processed engineering material such as a metal strip. In particular, a viscous material containment system can include a housing, a viscous material delivery system, a plurality of movable seals and a plurality of gas delivery devices. A method for cooling a roll can include applying a vicious material, such as coolant, to the roll and containing the viscous material on the roll using the viscous material containment system. In some cases, the viscous material containment system can be used to facilitate removal of the viscous material from the roll.

  • Publication number: 20180126440
Abstract: Provided herein is a high-speed blow forming process for shaping aluminum containers using 3xxx can body stock alloys with high recycled content, as well as articles made by that process. A process for shaping aluminum containers as described herein includes the sequential steps of blanking out a disk from a sheet of a 3xxx series aluminum alloy; forming a bottle preform by drawing redrawing, ironing and doming the disk, placing the preform into a mold cavity, applying an axial load to the preform; and injecting an inert gas into the interior of the preform with sufficient pressure until the preform expands to fill the mold cavity.

  • Patent number: 7191032
Abstract: In hydroforming of hollow metal articles in a die, such as pressure-ram-forming procedures, a method of decreasing cycle time of the forming process, while ensuring acceptable product properties and avoiding failures, by modeling the process using finite element analysis to establish a pressure-time history that optimizes the forming operation and applies failure limits to selected variables such as minimum wall thickness or maximum strain rate, and transferring this pressure-time history to a computer controlling the forming process. Thermocouple and/or continuity sensors are incorporated into the die wall and connected to the computer so as to provide active feedback from the die to the control of the process.
