  • Patent number: 5176655
Abstract: A disposable medical needle assembly having unique insertion and removal means from tissue, including means for fully shielding the used or contaminated needle from hazardous access or exposure. Various such means are disclosed in cooperation with needle guide and manipulation means. The assembly may also be utilized in conjunction with catheter placement, blood collection, and like purposes, while maintaining full and automatic safety shielding of the needle after use.

  • Patent number: 5045071
Abstract: A catheter and a method of making the same, which catheter has a means for interferring with an electromagnetic field to allow accurate detection of the catheter through tissue, the catheter comprising a first tube extruded over a continuous, solid core material having a diameter equivalent to the desired diameter of the inner passageway of the catheter, bands of metal fused to the first tube at various locations, and a second tube which is extruded over the first and the metal bands. The double-walled continuous tube is then cut into individual tubes and the core material is removed to form the catheter of this invention, which has a smooth outer surface and an embedded metal band.

  • Patent number: 4955356
Abstract: A combined stabilizer and tracker for attachment to an archery bow has first and second threadably connectable body members. An additional weight may be afforded through the use of a threaded extension member. The second body member may be utilized with a removable bushing to allow use of a variety of standard archery tracking cords. The device may be employed as a combined stabilizer and tracker, or utilized solely as a stabilizer. The archery bow stabilizer and tracker is preferably formed from a corrosion resistant brass material and eliminates the need for separate stabilizing and arrow tracking devices.

  • Patent number: 4943770
Abstract: A device for accurately detecting and monitoring the position of an object inside biological tissue, particularly an endotracheal tube inside a patient's throat, comprising a circuit which generates an electromagnetic field of limited width and depth, and which is disturbed by the presence of material having a high magnetic permeability such as a metal band on the distal end of such an endotracheal tube, but which is otherwise stable and not affected by temperature or other such factors. Included in the invention is a probe for generating the electromagnetic field, which probe is insensitive to temperature changes.

  • Patent number: 4917930
Abstract: Compositions having enhanced gas and drug transporting capability, are prepared by providing a perfluoro compound dispersed in an aqueous medium with a surfactant to form an aqueous initial dispersion, concentrating the perfluoro compound phase of the dispersion as by centrifugation or filtration, wherein a portion of the surfactant remains complexed with the particles of the perfluoro compound phase and the balance of the surfactant is in the aqueous phase, separating the phases, and redispersing the particles of the concentrated perfluoro compound phase to form a final dispersion in which greater than 65% by weight, and preferably at least 75%, of the surfactant present is complexed with the perfluoro compound particles.

  • Patent number: 4431005
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for determining very accurately the position of a device inside biological tissue comprising a detecting instrument with a probe, which probe generates a small magnetic field which can be disturbed by a magnetically permeable metal in the device inside the tissue when a narrow end of the probe is positioned immediately adjacent to tissue containing the metal, whereby after the metal-carrying device is inserted in the tissue, the end of the probe is used to precisely locate the device by scanning the tissue until the magnetic field is disturbed which causes the instrument to emit a signal.
