  • Publication number: 20070228951
Abstract: An article is provided including a heating element and a high temperature coating coated on the heating element. The high temperature coating comprises a first region and a second region arranged in a structure such that the first and second regions maintain a periodicity of distribution between about 100 nm and about 1000 nm. Furthermore, the first region includes a first material selected from the group consisting of carbides of transition metals, nitrides of transition metals, and borides of transition metals.

  • Publication number: 20050146836
Abstract: A hybrid capacitive storage system and method for storing electrical energy and hydrogen comprising at least a first dielectric layer, which dielectric layer is substantially impermeable to hydrogen. The hybrid storage system further comprises at least a first catalytic electrode layer disposed on at least a portion of a first surface of said first dielectric layer, which first catalytic electrode layer converts molecular hydrogen into atomic hydrogen, an electrode layer disposed on at least a portion of a second surface of said first dielectric layer, which electrode layer is selectively electrically connected to said first catalytic electrode layer; and at least one field generator for selectively applying a field to said storage system.

  • Publication number: 20050147829
Abstract: A material and an article comprising the material are presented. The material comprises a plurality of structural components. The structural components are configured in a series of increasing structural component size classes. The series has a base unit size class and at least one modular size class, and a component of the at least one modular size class comprises a plurality of components of the next smaller size class in the series. The structural components of the base unit size class comprise at least one bulk phase, and the structural components are bonded together at interfaces. Mechanical damage originating within a modular size class structural component is energetically favored to propagate in a distributed fashion among the plurality of structural components contained within the modular size class structural component.

  • Patent number: 6232582
Abstract: A cooking oven and method which compensates for variations in line voltage so as to achieve uniform cooking results that are independent of line voltage. The method includes providing an oven having a radiant energy source mounted therein, initiating a selected cooking cycle in the oven, measuring the line voltage across the radiant energy source and determining the increase or decrease in the line voltage above or below a predetermined nominal value. An adjusted energization time is determined relative to the predetermined energization time, using the determined increase or decrease in line voltage. The cooking cycle is completed using the adjusted energization time.
