  • Patent number: 5176036
Abstract: A parallel shaft drive controls rotational and translational movement of a driven hub. The drive is useful in indexing and other types of machines.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 16, 1991
Date of Patent: January 5, 1993
    Assignee: Overton Corporation
    Inventor: William O. Harris
  • Patent number: 5176240
Abstract: An indexing machine includes a continuous chain having a run extending between a pair of movable sprocket gears. Work carriers are provided at spaced intervals along the chain and a plurality of fixed work stations are located at equal intervals along the chain run. The machine includes a drive for continuously moving the chain including a compound worm gear with a lead and a variable pitch diameter. The gear engages followers attached to a sprocket gear so that rotation of the gear simultaneously translates the chain and rotates the sprocket gear to move the work carriers past the work stations and dwell the carriers at the stations.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5170546
Abstract: An indexing machine includes a continuous chain having a run extending between a pair of movable sprocket gears. Work carriers are provided at spaced intervals along the chain and a plurality of fixed work stations are located at equal intervals along the chain run. The machine includes a drive for continuously moving the chain and a cam rotated by movement of the chain for moving the sprocket gears back and forth and alternately accelerating movement of the chain in the run and dwelling the chain in the run with work carriers located adjacent work stations.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 21, 1992
Date of Patent: December 15, 1992
    Assignee: Overton Corporation

  • Patent number: 5125558
Abstract: The present invention is a method for performing a joining operation to couple a first component to a second component. One embodiment of the present method includes the steps of aligning the first component and the second component so that a first portion of the first component is aligned with a first portion of the second component, heating the first component so that a melt is formed at the first portion of the first component, and forcing the first portion of the second component into the melt so that when the melt solidifies, the first component and the second component are bonded.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 4, 1990
Date of Patent: June 30, 1992
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Marshall G. Jones, Donald R. Schindler, Jeffrey D. Johnson, William O. Harris
  • Patent number: 5064992
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus for performing a joining operation to couple a first component to a second component. One embodiment of the present apparatus includes means for aligning the first component and the second component so that a first portion of the first component is aligned with a first portion of the second component, means for heating the first component so that a melt is formed at the first portion of the first component, and means for forcing the first portion of the second component into the melt so that when the melt solidifies, the first component and the second component are bonded. In the exemplification embodiment, the heating means is an Nd:YAG laser source which emits at least a first laser beam which impinges upon one of the components.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 4, 1990
Date of Patent: November 12, 1991
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Marshall G. Jones, Donald R. Schindler, Jeffrey D. Johnson, William O. Harris
  • Patent number: 5039904
Abstract: A mount for a minature lamp terminating at one end in an elongated tubular member, said mount comprising a base and a cap assembled in mating engagement and exerting a compressive force on at least one deformable, elastomeric tubular or ring shaped member in said mount which surrounds and contacts said tubular lamp member of which at least a portion of which is inserted in a bore in the mount, thereby holding the lamp in the mount.

  • Patent number: 4942331
Abstract: A spud made of refractory metal wire in the shape of a ring with a loop on each side radially aligns and provides electricity to a filament in a double ended tungsten halogen lamp. The spud has a leg extending from the end of each loop, one of which is attached to the filament and the other forming part of an inlead assembly. This spud is particularly useful with relatively small size double ended tungsten-halogen lamps having an infrared reflecting coating on the surface of the vitreous filament chamber.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: July 17, 1990
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Rolf S. Bergman, William O. Harris
  • Patent number: 4675794
Abstract: A fixture for a high intensity discharge lamp includes a support mechanism allowing the adjustable positioning of the lamp relative to the reflector within the fixture in order to control the beam spread of the light output of the lamp and fixture combination so that focusing of the illumination can be controlled.
