  • Patent number: 5357837
Abstract: A woodwind mouthpiece is disclosed that has a straight-through air passageway that produces richer and brighter tones while minimizing restrictive flow, turbulence and back pressure in the mouthpiece. The arrangement of the walls in selected planes, the position of the top wall with respect to the reed-supporting surface and the lay angle of the reed-supporting surface allow the instrument associated with the mouthpiece to be played in a variety of positions. Different lay angles can be designed into the mouthpiece. Other features are disclosed.
