  • Patent number: 4327785
Abstract: A tie adz for cutting a section from a railroad tie adjacent a tie plate, with the tie plate still in association with the tie and preparatory to regauging the rails. The tie adz has a frame with rail-engaging wheels supportable on a rail and with an outrigger extending to the spaced parallel rail. The cutter head is mounted on the frame for pivotal movement about a vertical axis to position the cutter carried thereby at a desired distance from the inner edge of a tie plate and with the location of the cutter head being established by a gauge member. The cutter head is locked in position and has a longitudinally movable driven spindle carrying the cutter which is movable lengthwise of the cutter head to place the cutter at a cutting depth relative to the tie whereby advance of the frame along the rail moves the cutter through the tie and cuts the section from the tie.

  • Patent number: 4320707
Abstract: A machine for applying a clip to a tie at a side of a rail and detecting when the clip has been fully seated comprising, a head positionable at a predetermined location relative to the tie and rail, a pair of arms pivotally mounted on the head for rotation in a plane which extends parallel to the rail, and power structure for simultaneously pivoting both of the arms between a raised retracted position and a lowered position. Movement between the retracted and lowered positions causes a clip-engaging member on one arm of the pair to engage and advance the clip to a fully-seated position. The second arm of the pair detects when the clip has reached the fully seated position and stops further movement of the clip-engaging member.

  • Patent number: 4156991
Abstract: A rail cutting apparatus mountable on a rail and having a linkage structure with an offset arm connected to one end of the linkage, a cutting device having a mounting bar with a mounting element lying in a plane containing the cutting element of the cutting device, said mounting element being connected to the offset arm for rotation about an axis lying in said plane, and coacting means on the offset arm and mounting bar to positively limit the rotative positions of the cutting device and accurately position the cutting device for cutting of the rail.

  • Patent number: 4068415
Abstract: A rail cutting apparatus including a base adapted to be disposed on the head of a rail. Opposed, inwardly directed fingers are located on the base for disposition about the head of the rail and the fingers on at least one side of the base are movable towards the opposed fingers. A clamp is provided to clamp the fingers about the head of a rail and a pair of links having adjacent ends pivotally interconnected for relative rotation about an axis generally parallel to the direction of elongation of the head of a rail are pivotally connected to the base for limited rotation about an axis parallel to the previously mentioned axis. A cutting tool is pivotally connected to one of the links remote from the base such that when the apparatus is clamped to a rail, the cutting tool may be swung to either side of the rail to cut the rail without removing the apparatus from the rail.

  • Patent number: 3945749
Abstract: A clamping apparatus attachable to a rail for supporting a portable machine tool therefrom including exchangeable and formed clamping blocks with pre-set adjustment members to match points on the web contour between the base and head of all sizes of rail, and to accurately align and securely lock the machine tool into its proper working position relative to the rail without any location against parts of the rail subject to wear.
