    Abstract: A method for minimizing the production of sand in submersible-pump well applications is disclosed, in which control of fluid production rates is used to maintain a low rate of change of formation pressure. Simulation of well drawdown conditions in advance of startup allow the prediction of well performance and the selection of a drawdown profile to be implemented in control systems.
