  • Patent number: 5313026
Abstract: An electronic stepper for indicating floor position has initialization switches set by a serviceman for indicating a reference floor position. Whenever the car goes by the reference position in the hoistway, the corresponding reference floor is output. The electronic stepper may be mounted on a printed circuit board having a floor display for use by the serviceman. Various toggle switches may be provided for use by the serviceman in setting up and checking operation. Power checking means may be provided for initiating nonvolatile storage of the current floor position in the event of a brown-out or other power failure. Watchdog circuitry may be provided for checking on the health of the signal processor and a circuit for watching the watchdog may also be provided. A timed window signal may also be provided for indicating the end of the time at which a stopping sequence must be initiated in order to be able to stop at the approaching floor.

  • Patent number: 4119019
Abstract: A funnel-shaped receptacle is temporarily positioned on the top of a coffee-making machine with its bottom outlet positioned to discharge into the heater tank of the machine. The interior of the receptacle is spanned by a disposable activated carbon filter and below the filter is a container of screen material filled with soluble phosphate granules. Replenishing water poured through the receptacle is first purified by the filter and is then treated with the dissolved phosphate to prevent calcium formation and corrosion in the heater tank.

  • Patent number: 4101140
Abstract: A composite seal for use between a movable element and a static element in a fluid pressure system where pressures vary on opposite sides of the seal. The seal comprises a fluoronated hydrocarbon sealing ring with a finely grooved sealing surface and an elastomer loading ring. The loading ring is a static seal and normally imposes radial force on the dynamic sealing ring and under increased fluid pressure deforms the peripheral grooves, forcing entrained fluid from them. The sealing ring has recovery characteristics which tend to restore the deformed grooves without readmitting fluid into the grooves, establishing a pressure differential which adheres the sealing ring to the surface to be sealed.

  • Patent number: 4101777
Abstract: A unitary device for purifying water and other fluids embodying an annular filter surrounding an elongate tube which in turn surrounds and cooperates with an elongate ultraviolet lamp to form a flow channel for fluid to be irradiated. Fluid passing through the filter is conveyed through the flow channel along the length of the lamp to effect sterilization. The lamp is encased in a film of material having non-stick characteristics with respect to the fluid being treated, such as fluorinated ethylene propylene, to prevent buildup of scale and other contamination on the surface of the lamp which would otherwise reduce transmission of ultraviolet rays to the fluid. The lamp assembly is constructed as a replaceable removable unit which is adapted to be mounted in reversed endwise position to accommodate the device for different types of installations.
