Publication number: 20080284193Abstract: A tailgate damper for damping the lowering of a tailgate that is rotatably coupled along a tailgate shaft to a truck is provided. The tailgate damper can include a housing that has an inner cavity with a viscous fluid within the inner cavity. In addition, a seal can be located at a base of the inner cavity and be operable to keep the viscous fluid therewithin. A damping insert having a damping portion and a tailgate portion extending from the tailgate portion is provided, with the tailgate portion being able to attach coaxially to the tailgate shaft. The damping portion is located at least partially within the inner cavity of the housing and is in contact with the viscous fluid such that rotation of the damping portion is resisted.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 15, 2008Publication date: November 20, 2008Applicant: Z F Group North American Operations, Inc.Inventors: John Gleason, William P. Ryan, III, Daniel Dearing

Patent number: 6110101Abstract: A sling for supporting the urethra and neck of the bladder to prevent urinary incontinence is disclosed. The sling is designed to provide sufficient support to inhibit the unintended flow of urine, yet stretch in a controlled fashion so that the bladder can be voided at approximate times.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1999Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: ContiCare Medical, Inc.Inventors: Claude Tihon, Mark A. Rydell, William P. Ryan

Patent number: 5492532Abstract: A balloon consisting of braided fibers encapsulated between two plastic elastomeric materials affixes to a distal end of a catheter. The braided fibers provide reinforcement to contain pressure and determine the maximum diameter of the balloon on expansion. The elastomeric material provides for fluid containment and collapsing of the balloon after pressurization. An embedded spring in an elastomeric material internal to the catheter provides memory to assist in collapsing the balloon after pressurization. The embedded spring extends from the distal end of the catheter towards the proximal end of the catheter along a substantial length of the catheter. The catheter with the balloon are in a multilumen configuration or in a coaxial configuration. A guidewire passage extends through the elastomeric material with the embedded spring. An alternative embodiment illustrates a hub with a movable internal seal and inner tube connected to a balloon catheter tip with a free space collapsement spring.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1994Date of Patent: February 20, 1996Assignee: B. Braun Medical, Inc.Inventors: William P. Ryan, Edward A. Barlow

Patent number: 5338314Abstract: A Y-connector with a compression gasket for compressing about a guidewire or catheter when inserted into an inner chamber of a Y-connector and compressed by a rim of a large knurled knob. When the large knurled knob is twisted with an inward force, the rim engages the gasket with inward compression, causing the center portion of the gasket to expand inwardly, thereby frictionally engaging against a guidewire or catheter. The inner expansion of the gasket is substantially equal about the inner circumference of the gasket, thereby providing a seal between the guidewire catheter and bodily fluids, such as blood. A guidewire clamp is included at the end of a side arm extending from the Y-connector body.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1992Date of Patent: August 16, 1994Assignee: B. Braun Medical, Inc.Inventor: William P. Ryan

Patent number: 4539841Abstract: A method of diagnosing the peak compression pressure and power output of individual cylinders of an internal combustion engine based on stored normalized energy coefficients derived from a normalized pressure curve and the measured instantaneous engine speed.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 1984Date of Patent: September 10, 1985Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: Thaddeus Schroeder, William P. Patent number: 4520658Abstract: The piston top dead center position of an engine is accurately determined by a non-intrusive method in which the engine instantaneous speed is recorded, the minimum point determined as an estimation of top dead center and the minimum point adjusted by a predetermined amount based on engine speed and combustion timing.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1983Date of Patent: June 4, 1985Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: William P. Ryan, Thaddeus Schroeder

Patent number: 4495380Abstract: A combined metal and plastic standoff for supporting a circuit board in fixed spatial relationship with another element comprises a rigid plastic body of appreciable length to produce the standoff effect and a metal retaining member integrally mounted on the plastic body at an operative end thereof. The metal retaining member has main and retaining portions, the main portion being fixedly disposed within the plastic body and the retaining portion extending outwardly from the plastic body having a resilient reverse bend segment, and being adapted for engagement with the circuit board or other element by an essentially longitudinal motion of the standoff along the axis of the body length to physically secure the circuit board or other element to the plastic body adjacent to the operative end.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1982Date of Patent: January 22, 1985Assignee: Mite CorporationInventors: William P. Ryan, Richard A. Mason, Vincent A. Maida, Timothy F. Donovan
