  • Publication number: 20100092019
Abstract: A waveguide system for radiating sound waves. The system includes a low loss waveguide for transmitting sound waves, having walls are tapered so that said cross-sectional area of the exit end is less than the cross-sectional area of the inlet end. In a second aspect of the invention, a waveguide for radiating sound waves, has segments of length approximately equal to A ? ( y ) = A inlet ? [ 1 - 2 ? Y B + ( y B ) 2 ] where l is the effective length of said waveguide and n is a positive integer. The product of a first set of alternating segments is greater than the product of a second set of alternating segments, in one embodiment, by a factor of three. In a third aspect of the invention, the first two aspects are combined.

  • Patent number: 5809153
Abstract: Electroacoustical transducing apparatus includes an input for receiving an audio electrical signal. A first electroacoustical transducer is constructed and arranged to radiate first sound waves in a first direction in a first frequency range in response to an audio electrical signal on the input. A second electroacoustical transducer is constructed and arranged to radiate sound energy in a second direction in a second frequency range. A third electroacoustical transducer is constructed and arranged to radiate sound energy in a third direction within the second frequency range.

  • Patent number: 5418337
Abstract: A loudspeaker diaphragm has a surround comprising vibratile material extending between an inner circle and an outer circle. The material has a thin compliant roll near the outer circle and an outer circular bead inside of and near the thin compliant roll. An inner ridge having both radial and tangential components extends between the inner circle and the outer circular bead. The width of the outer circular bead and the inner ridge is significantly less than the diameter of the outer circle. The attachment area between the cone body and the surround covers a substantial area of the cone body.

  • Patent number: 5092424
Abstract: A loudspeaker system has at least a first electroacoustical transducer having a vibratable diaphragm for converting an input electrical signal into a corresponding acoustic output signal. An enclosure is divided into at least first, second and third subchambers by at least first and second dividing walls. The first dividing wall supports and coacts with the first electrical transducer to bound the first and second subchambers. At least a first passive radiator intercouples the first and third subchambers. At least a second passive radiator intercouples at least one of the second and third subchambers with the region outside the enclosure. Each passive radiator is characterized by acoustic mass. Each subchamber is characterized by acoustic compliance. The acoustic mass and acoustic compliances coact to establish at least three spaced frequencies in the passband of the loudspeaker system at which the deflection characteristic of the vibratable diaphragm as a function of frequency has a minimum.

  • Patent number: 4932060
Abstract: A woofer enclosure includes left and right input terminal pairs and left and right output terminal pairs. A protection circuit, woofer, satellite protection capacitor, satellite passive equalizer and light bulb intercouple the woofer enclosure input terminal pair and output terminal pair. Left and right satellite assemblies each include a lower enclosure and an upper enclosure with each enclosure including a single full-range driver. Each lower enclosure includes an input terminal pair connected to a respective output terminal pair of the woofer enclosure. A bypass capacitor is selectively connected across the driver in the lower enclosure. The upper enclosure driver is connected in series with the lower enclosure driver through a plug-and-jack connector.

  • Patent number: 4723289
Abstract: A stereo loudspeaker system includes left and right loudspeaker cabinets each having a woofer mounted off center on the front baffle and tweeters mounted in front of the woofer with the axis of each tweeter at an angle to that of the woofer. Each cabinet includes a crossover network that intercouples the woofer and tweeter and controls the phasing of the tweeter with respect to the woofer to steer the radiation maximum of lower treble frequencies along an axis skewed from the fore-aft axis of the woofer. Left and right loudspeakers of the stereo system have symmetrical, mirror-image, crossfired, acoustic radiation patterns.

  • Patent number: 4146745
Abstract: A multiple driver loudspeaker system comprises two angularly spaced rear rectangular baffles each nearly filled with four closely spaced full-range small loudspeakers with a port tube passing through the center of each rear baffle and the junction therebetween. A front baffle carries a small centrally located loudspeaker. The front loudspeaker is backed by a cavity that is vented through the port tube at the intersection between the rear baffles. Each of the remaining loudspeakers is backed by a cavity with the four cavities associated with each rear baffle being vented through the associated port tube through channels located at the front of each cavity. Two bullets are cantilevered from the front baffle rearward and essentially concentric within the respective centrally located ports. The volume of each of the nine cavities is substantially the same.
