Publication number: 20250133162Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of verifying the authenticity of telephone calls from a caller to a recipient, the telephone calls having a caller's telephone number and recipient's telephone number, respectively, and an accessible field within the caller ID system for receiving content. The method includes the steps of first identifying the recipient for a call to be made by the caller. A current sequence marker for the recipient is then generated. The current sequence marker represents the next sequence identifier in a sequence of telephone calls between the caller and the recipient. The current sequence marker is then inserted into the accessible field of the caller ID information for the telephone call and the call is then placed to the recipient. Potentially fraudulent telephone calls are flagged for the recipient to help prevent telephone-based phishing and other phone fraud attempts.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 5, 2024Publication date: April 24, 2025Inventor: William PEARCE

Publication number: 20240378289Abstract: Techniques are described herein that are capable of detecting an algorithmic attack against a hosted artificial intelligence (AI) system based on inputs (e.g., queries) and outputs of the hosted AI system. In a first example, a feature-based classifier model is used to generate a classification score based on features that are derived from numerical representations of the queries and the outputs, and an algorithmic attack is detected based on the classification score being greater than or equal to a score threshold. In a second example, a transformer-based model is used to generate a vector by providing a multivariate time series, which is based on attribute(s) of the inputs and attribute(s) of the outputs, as an input to the transformer-based model, and an algorithmic attack is detected based on a distance between the vector and a point corresponding to a reference vector being less than or equal to a distance threshold.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 16, 2024Publication date: November 14, 2024Inventors: Hyrum Spencer ANDERSON, Raja Sekhar Rao DHEEKONDA, William PEARCE, Ricky Dee LOYND, James David MCCAFFREY, Ram Shankar SIVA KUMAR

Patent number: 11601440Abstract: Herein is disclosed a method of verifying the authenticity of emails sent from a first email application of a sender to a second email application of a recipient, the emails each having a sender's email address, a receiver's email address, and a user accessible field for receiving content. The content of the user accessible field is visible to the recipient upon opening an email inbox in the second email application. The method includes the steps of first identifying the receiver for an email to be sent by the sender. A current sequence marker for the receiver is then generated. The current sequence marker represents a next sequence identifier in a sequence of emails between the sender and the receiver. The current sequence marker is then inserted into the user-accessible field of the email and the email is then sent.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2019Date of Patent: March 7, 2023Inventor: William Pearce

Publication number: 20170305646Abstract: The present invention provides a dispensing container comprising a vessel, the vessel having: a formation and/or discrete element in or on the vessel which causes the centre of gravity of contents of the vessel to be positioned differently, when oriented in a lain-on-side attitude, from its notional position, in the absence of the formation or element in or on the vessel; an additional formation or discrete element in or on the vessel which, when the container is in the lain-on-side attitude, lifts at least a portion of the container away from a surface, wherein, when the container is in the lain-on-side attitude and has a first volume of content, the centre of gravity of the content biases the container to a first orientation, and when the container is in the lain-on-side attitude and has a second volume of content, the centre of gravity of the container biases the container to a second orientation, different to the first.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 20, 2015Publication date: October 26, 2017Inventors: Raymond John Bacon, Stuart William Pearce, Alex William Noble

Publication number: 20050095106Abstract: An accessory for a forklift allows handling of cartoned goods a whole layer at a time and part of a layer. The head has a series of closely parked suction devices which are served by a common vacuum chamber. The head is carried by the forks and vacuum is supplied by a separate unit mounted on the forklift. In a modification, the head is carried on a sub assembly which allows the head to move to one side of the forklift. An electric reach truck is modified by the addition of the vacuum lifting head to a mast-mounted pallet handling fork assembly directly beneath the head, enabling layer by layer filling of the pallet. The assembly has a swinging frame which allows the forks to swing out of register with the head to a position beside the truck where the full pallet can be exchanged for a fresh pallet.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2004Publication date: May 5, 2005Inventor: William Pearce

Patent number: 6820182Abstract: A memory exhaustion condition is handled in a data processing system having first and second regions of physical memory. The memory exhaustion condition is detected while the second region is mirroring at least part of the first region. In response to the memory exhaustion condition, memory mirroring is at least partially deactivated and at least part of the second region is utilized to augment the first region, such that the memory exhaustion condition is eliminated. In an illustrative embodiment, the data processing system compresses real memory into the first region of physical memory, and the memory exhaustion condition arises when the first region lacks sufficient available capacity to accommodate current requirements for real memory. The memory exhaustion condition is eliminated by compressing at least part of the real memory into the second region.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2000Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Charles David Bauman, Richard Bealkowski, Thomas J Clement, Jerry William Pearce, Michael Robert Turner
