  • Publication number: 20190112569
Abstract: The present invention provides in situ Raman spectroscopy methods and systems for monitoring and controlling one or more process variables in a bioreactor cell culture in order to improve product quality and consistency. The methods and systems utilize in situ Raman spectroscopy and chemometric modeling techniques for real-time assessments of cell cultures, combined with signal processing techniques, for precise continuous feedback and model predictive control of cell culture process variables. Through the use of real-time data from Raman spectroscopy, the process variables within the cell culture may be continuously or intermittently monitored and automated feedback controllers maintain the process variables at predetermined set points or maintain a specific feeding protocol that delivers variable amounts of agents to the bioreactor to maximize bioproduct quality.

  • Publication number: 20170185265
Abstract: An apparatus includes a transceiver, a display, and a processor, operatively coupled to the transceiver and to the display. The processor is operative to interrupt a communication application by displaying a context notification within a graphical user interface (GUI) of the communication application on the display. The processor prevents user input to the communication application until a user selection input is received within the context notification on the GUI. In one embodiment, the processor is operative to display the context notification within a dialog box on the GUI.

  • Publication number: 20060235390
Abstract: An anterior instrumentation method of treating spinal deformities involves a combination of a spinal rod anterior system and one or two spinal plates fixed on the cephalad and caudal end vertebrae of the instrumented segment. Deformities are treated by the anterior rod system through compression, distraction and derotation. Two spinal plates are fixed to the cephalad and caudal end vertebrae respectively to prevent the end vertebrae from rotating into kyphosis. A number of cancellous screws are inserted into the cephalad and caudal end vertebrae and their adjacent vertebrae through the spinal plate to provide several points of fixation on the end vertebrae to prevent implant failure and loss of correction.

  • Publication number: 20060226235
Abstract: A photo card comprises a photographic image printed on a substantially durable card, such as a plastic card. An image is printed on at least a first side of the card, the image extending across a surface of the card, wherein substantially the entire area of the card is occupied by the image. In another example, the photo card includes multiple images on one or both sides of the card.

  • Publication number: 20060217014
Abstract: An inflatable rescue collar is disclosed. The collar is formed of an elongated inflatable cylindrical tube having appropriate ends and which is of a size to extend around the upper torso of an individual. The bladder is generally toroidal in cross-section and defines an open channel along the length thereof through which a web strap extends. The strap is constructed such that it may be cinched adjacent the free ends thereof so as not to bind on an individual, or clipped so as to be capable of applying a compressive force about the upper torso of an individual.

  • Publication number: 20050188741
Abstract: A clamping jaw for gripping wire stock used in nail production machines includes a quick change system that allows efficient replacement of a removable tool insert. The clamping jaw includes a main body that is partially split so as to define a gap between first and second opposing clamping fingers having a recess portion there between for receiving and retaining the insert. The main body includes a top surface, a bottom surface, a central bore that extends between the first and second surfaces, and a countersunk cavity formed in the bottom surface. A tapered projection formed from the first and second clamping fingers extends into the countersunk cavity. A clamping member, having a tapered recess for receiving the projection, is positioned in the countersunk cavity. A fastener is tightened to draw the clamping member onto the projection to close the clamping fingers in order to grip the insert.

  • Patent number: 4573997
Abstract: A right ventricular assist device for assisting the circulation of the blood includes a smooth segmented polyurethane sac having a single valveless passageway to provide a single inlet and outlet. A rigid ellipsoidal shell surrounds the sac and has a first opening for the single valveless passageway and a second opening for pressurizing an interior portion of the shell. A flexible diaphragm extends across the interior of the shell and divides the interior into two unequal volumes; the sac and first opening in a first and larger volume, and a second opening and a pressurizing chamber in a second and smaller volume. The diaphragm is angled and dimensioned to expel up to 90% of the blood present in the sac by pressure supplied through the second opening. A vascular graft is attached between the valveless passageway and a pulmonary artery. Alternately, the sac may be formed with an elongate neck which is reinforced with a dacron graft anastomosed to the pulmonary artery.
