  • Patent number: 11145270
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods that reduce power consumption for an electronics device including a display. The systems and methods alter video information in a display area and reduce power for a display device when a graphics item is enlarged and the enlargement threatens to increase perceived luminance for the graphics item or increase aggregate luminance for the display area. Altering the video information reduces the luminance of video information in at least the graphics item when enlarged. This may offset perceived luminance gained by human visual processing when an item increases in size. If the graphics item is smaller than the display area after enlargement, then other video information in the display area may also be altered to conserve power.

  • Publication number: 20080012880
Abstract: Described herein are methods and systems that allow a user to reposition or size a graphics item or background such that a portion of the graphics item resides outside the background. This permits tailored operating spaces based on user preference and allowable conditions, which are particularly useful with display devices having a large display area.

  • Publication number: 20070285344
Abstract: Described herein are devices that provide projection-type video output in a portable design. The projection-type display devices include a battery that stores electrical energy. The battery increases display device portability and flexible usage by permitting display device operation in locations not serviceable by a fixed power supply. For example, inclusion of a battery extends projector-type display device usage into a car, library, remote environment, or any other setting where fixed power outlets are not readily available or within power cord reach. To increase device endurance from a finite battery power supply, the present invention may also implement one or more hardware designs that reduce power consumption.

  • Publication number: 20070257941
Abstract: This invention provides systems and methods that allow a user to change the size of a background used with a graphics-based user interface. This enables tailored background sizes based on user preference and allowable conditions, which are particularly useful with display devices having a large display area. By custom sizing a background to current conditions, a user may navigate an image among obstacles at a receiving surface and obstacles along a projection path between a projection lens and receiving surface. In addition, a user may customize the background size on a large LCD screen according to more suitable dimensions for an image used in the background or to a personal preference, thereby creating a personalized look and feel for the graphics-based user interface. One embodiment of the present invention defines a usable area for a graphics-based user interface according to the current size of the background.

  • Publication number: 20070205300
Abstract: Described herein are devices that provide projection-type video output in a portable and flexible design. The design includes a projection chamber, a base, and an interface that permits relative positioning between the projection chamber and base. The base maintains the position of the display device. The projection chamber includes components responsible for the production of images based on received video data and components responsible for the projection of those images. Relative pointing between the projection chamber and base allows the projection chamber to be pointed—and an output projected image to be positioned—with minimal effort.

  • Publication number: 20070192947
Abstract: Described herein is apparel that protects a wearer from an undesirable agent. The apparel employs a transition portal to assist doffing and to reduce the risk of cross-contamination during doffing. The transition portal attaches to the apparel proximate to one end of an aperture, which provides an exit for the protective apparel. When doffing, the transition portal extends away from the person, who exits the aperture. The transition portal is then pulled over the body along with any attached portions of the protective apparel. This turns the transition portal—and attached parts of the apparel—inside-out. After doffing, most portions of protective apparel are either a) inside-out, or b) contained within the inside-out transition portal and/or apparel. As a result, undesirable agents—that were initially on the outside of the apparel—are now inside the inside-out transition portal and apparel.

  • Publication number: 20070195276
Abstract: Described herein are display devices that provide projection-type video output and use lasers to generate light. To reduce any speckle effects for a projected image cast by a projector onto of a non-specular surface, the present invention decreases coherence of the laser-generated light. Coherence reduction is accomplished by introducing a coherence diffuser in a light path of the laser light. Arranging the coherence diffuser in an unfocused light beam reduces both temporal and spatial coherence in the light. Arranging the rotating diffuser at the focus of a beam reduces only the temporal coherence while maintaining the spatial coherence.

  • Publication number: 20070002035
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods that that reduce power consumption for an electronics device that includes a display. The power conservation systems and methods alter background video information not needed for interactive use when a user returns to a display after some period of inactivity. Power conservation also preserves video information for one or more graphical user interface items. Preserving a graphics item maintains a person's ability to detect the graphical user interface item, and return to it at a later time, even though the background video information has been altered to conserver power.

  • Publication number: 20060250525
Abstract: Described herein are power conservation techniques that reduce power consumption for an electronics device including a display. The techniques divide video information for display into white and non-white video information. The white video information is altered such that the alteration decreases the amount of power required to display the white video information. The altered white video information and non-white video information are then visually output together. White-based power conservation as described herein may be performed while a person uses the electronics device, which reduces power consumption continually during usage.

  • Publication number: 20060150305
Abstract: Described herein is protective apparel that improves management. The protective apparel comprises a set of spacers. Each spacer is arranged on an inner portion of the apparel and maintains apparel proximate to the spacer distant from the person, thereby preventing continuous contact between the person and portions of the apparel. Multiple spacers may form one or more air channel between the spacers, the person and inner portions of the apparel. The channels permit low resistance airflow within the apparel and over the person's body. Low resistance airflow within the channels permits air to be easily moved through the apparel to cool the person. The spacers may comprise a compressible material such as foam. When the compressible material has an elastic memory, elastic return of the material causes each spacer to return to its initial shape after a deforming force is removed.

  • Publication number: 20060001658
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods that reduce power consumption for an electronics device that includes a display. The systems and methods generate edge detection video information for a graphics component that allows a person to visually identify and locate the graphics component within a display area for the display device. Video information in the display area other than the edge detection video information is altered to conserve power. Preserving the edge detection video information for the window maintains a person's ability to see and locate the window at a later time, even though other portions of the display area have been altered and potentially visually degraded to conserver power.

  • Publication number: 20050275651
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods that reduce power consumption for an electronics device that includes a display. Power conservation systems and methods described herein alter video information in one or more inactive portions of a display area such that the alteration decreases power consumption. The invention finds use with many electronics devices, such as portable computing devices powered from a battery or other limited source of power. Since video output often dominates power consumption for an electronics device, decreasing display power consumption may extends battery longevity for the portable device.
