  • Patent number: 4559095
Abstract: A method is described for curing an elastomeric tubular article having a thermoplastic jacket thereon. The curing is achieved either by heat or by microwave radiation. After curing, the thermoplastic jacket is removed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 7, 1984
Date of Patent: December 17, 1985
Assignee: The B. F. Goodrich Company
    Inventor: William R. Babbin
  • Patent number: 4512942
Abstract: The vulcanizing of elastomeric articles by captively securing the article to be cured under pressure by a mold that is transparent to microwave energy. The mold in the preferred embodiment is a pair of conveying runs which define cooperatively a mold cavity therebetween. The microwave transmitting devices are located along the path of movement of such conveying runs.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 13, 1983
Date of Patent: April 23, 1985
    Assignee: B. F. Goodrich Company
Inventors: William R. Babbin, James W. Messerly
  • Patent number: 4131409
Abstract: An apparatus for continuously vulcanizing elastomeric hose employing a tubular, helically extending vulcanizing chamber with an entrance for unvulcanized hose at one end and an exit for vulcanized hose at the other end terminating in a fluid bath which collects the vulcanizing fluid for re-circulation. Means are provided to circulate a vulcanizing fluid at elevated temperatures and pressures through the chamber to transport the hose therethrough while providing the heat and pressure required for satisfactory vulcanization. The fluid bath provides means for effectively preventing escape of pressurized fluid contained in the system.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 25, 1977
Date of Patent: December 26, 1978
Assignee: The B. F. Goodrich Company
    Inventor: William R. Babbin
  • Patent number: 3966387
Abstract: An apparatus adapted for continuously vulcanizing elastomeric hose comprises a tubular, helically extending vulcanizing chamber with an entrance for unvulcanized hose at one end and an exit for vulcanized hose at the other end. Means are provided to circulate fluid at elevated temperatures and pressures through the chamber thereby transporting the hose therethrough while simultaneously providing the heat and pressure required for satisfactory vulcanization. Special sealing means are provided to permit the flaccid hose structure continuous entry to the chamber while effectively preventing escape of pressurized fluid contained therein.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 5, 1975
Date of Patent: June 29, 1976
Assignee: The B. F. Goodrich Company
Inventors: William R. Babbin, Stephen C. Sabo
  • Patent number: 3946918
Abstract: Limp, elastomeric hose is fed through a pressurized chamber having an inlet and an outlet opening, the outlet opening leading directly to a pressurized hose treatment zone. Seals at both the inlet and outlet opening of the chamber simultaneously permit continuous passage of hose and prevent escape of the pressurizing fluid from the chamber and from the treatment zone. The hose is driven from the inlet end of the chamber up to and out of the outlet seal of the chamber, and into the treatment zone by a pair of vertically spaced substantially mutually parallel, endless, flexible belts disposed within the chamber.

Date of Patent: March 30, 1976
Assignee: The B. F. Goodrich Company
