Abstract: An ultrasonic surgical device is disclosed including a surgical tool including a proximal transducer mounting portion defining a surface, a distal end effector end, and a waveguide disposed therebetween, the waveguide extending along a longitudinal axis. The ultrasonic surgical device further includes a transducer is in mechanical communication with the surface of the transducer mounting portion. The transducer is configured to operate in a D31 mode with respect to the longitudinal axis of the waveguide. Upon activation by an electrical signal having a predetermined frequency component, the transducer is configured to induce a standing wave in the surgical tool to cause the end effector to vibrate, the standing wave having a wavelength proportional to the predetermined frequency component of the electrical signal.

Abstract: A device to aid law enforcement officers to handle suspects or captives includes a strap with a loop which is connected at one end to the officer's finger and a wrist band portion which is wrapped around the wrist and fastened to a gripping portion which is provided with a series of protrusions which engage and cause discomfort to the suspect or captive when the officer grips the captive about the wrist, arm or leg.

Abstract: Guard apparatus for a window or the like in a building characterized by a guard element that is hingedly mounted to a wall adjacent the window and adapted to prevent entry into the window from the exterior and having a releasable fastener that is releasable interiorly of the building without tools to allow emergency egress through the window but resists force exteriorly of the building. The releasable fastener has a lock housing that is inaccessible from outside the building when the lock bar on the guard element is inserted into its normal latched position. Also disclosed are specific structural details and preferred embodiments of the releasable fastener.
