    Abstract: Apparatus for feeding a web of material from a supply thereof through an inspection area and winding the web, comprising a frame, a supply roll on the frame, a mandrel for winding the web on the frame having a gripper for gripping a leading end portion of the web, a drive for rotating the mandrel for winding the web thereon and for feeding the web through the inspection area, a panel engageable with the leading end portion of the web for backing the web fed through the inspection area, a pivotal connection mounting the panel on the frame for movement between an operative position relative to the mandrel for starting the winding of the web and a retracted position away from the mandrel, the panel being engageable with the leading end portion of the web, and cylinder units attached to the panel for moving the panel between operative and retracted positions. The gripper comprises a series of holes in the periphery of the mandrel and a vacuum pump in communication with the holes for drawing air into the mandrel.

    Abstract: A vehicle comprises a frame, wheel carriers spaced longitudinally of the frame, and wheels on the carriers. A suspension system supports the frame on the carriers with connections between the frame and the carriers allowing relative rocking movement of the frame and each carrier about an axis extending generally longitudinally and centrally of the vehicle. Linkages between the carriers on opposite sides of the axis each comprise bell cranks having a first arm interengageable with the respective carrier and a second arm, and a tension link interconnecting the second arms, adapted to effect relative rocking movement in one direction of one carrier and the frame on relative rocking movement of the other carrier and the frame in the opposite direction, and vice versa.

    Abstract: Apparatus for joining together two plies of material such as textile fabric comprising a sewing machine, contour guide means for shifting the plies as they are fed forward through the sewing machine to effect contour seaming of the plies, and a feed control clamp for clamping the trailing ends of the plies as they are fed forward. This clamp, clamped on the trailing ends of the plies, moves forward with the plies as they are fed forward. It is also automatically shifted from side to side as it moves forward to maintain the edge of the plies being sewn aligned with the contour guide means. The apparatus further comprises loading means which is adapted, while a pair of plies is being sewn, to receive the next pair to be sewn and, upon completion of sewing the first pair, to enter the next pair in the sewing machine and in the feed control clamp.

    Abstract: Molding thermoformable textile fabric (knit, woven or otherwise), and particularly stretch fabric, into a permanent three-dimensional shape by vacuum-molding in a cavity in a vacuum mold, wherein flow of air through the fabric is blocked to enable it to be vacuum-formed by means of a layer of substantially air-impervious thermoformable sheet plastic material applied over the fabric. The plastic is heated to thermoforming temperature, the plastic and fabric are vacuum-formed in the mold, the molded plastic layer with the molded fabric thereon being removed from the mold and the molded plastic layer being utilized as a form for holding the molded fabric in its molded shape for a sufficient period of time to stabilize the fabric in its molded shape. The molded plastic layer is cooled within the mold via a flow of cooling air.
