Patent number: 6820082Abstract: A rule-based database security system and method are disclosed. A method for processing requests from a user to perform an action with respect to data stored in an electronic database includes defining a plurality of user defined rules containing security constraints for accessing the data and receiving a request at a user interface. The request is transferred from the user interface to a rule engine and the plurality of rules are applied to the request to determine if the request passes the security constraints. The method further includes modifying the request if required to meet the security constraints. The data is accessed to perform the request if the request meets the security constraints.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 2000Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Allegis CorporationInventors: William R. Patent number: 6668203Abstract: A state machine model analyzes sensor data from dynamic processes at a facility to identify the actual processes that were performed at the facility during a period of interest for the purpose of remote facility inspection. An inspector can further input the expected operations into the state machine model and compare the expected, or declared, processes to the actual processes to identify undeclared processes at the facility. The state machine analysis enables the generation of knowledge about the state of the facility at all levels, from location of physical objects to complex operational concepts. Therefore, the state machine method and apparatus may benefit any agency or business with sensored facilities that stores or manipulates expensive, dangerous, or controlled materials or information.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2001Date of Patent: December 23, 2003Assignee: Sandia CorporationInventors: William R. Patent number: 6178432Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for creating an interactive web page. A plurality of objects are defined which are configured to have associated states. The associated states include a visible state and a hidden state. An object in the visible state is displayed and an object in the hidden state is not displayed. Subsets of objects are associated together in structures so that the state of any object within the structure is dependent on the states of other objects within the structure. The plurality of objects and the structures are placed into an hierarchy in a way which causes certain objects and structures in the hierarchy to be layered on top of other objects and structures in the hierarchy. Behaviors are associated with the objects, and each behavior includes an associated event, an associated action, and an associated target object. Each behavior is arranged so that when the associated event occurs, the associated action is performed on the associated target object.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1996Date of Patent: January 23, 2001Assignee: Informative Graphics Corp.Inventors: William R. Cook, Martin R. Gannholm

Patent number: 5441125Abstract: A platform support device for temporary attachment to a vertical side of a structure, e.g. for supporting planks on which a tradesman can stand while installing soffit, has an elongate upright member with an attachment portion at an upper end of the upright member. The attachment portion is formed with a flat face for abutment against the structure and with nail holes interrupting the flat face for receiving therethrough the heads of nails projecting from the structure, whereby the support can be suspended from the structure at a height determined by the locations of the nails. A pair of arms extending laterally outwardly from opposite sides of the upright member at a lower end of the upright member for stabilizing abutment against the structure. A horizontal support projects forwardly from the lower end of the upright member; and a reinforcement extends between and is fixed to the top of the support and the front of the upright member.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1993Date of Patent: August 15, 1995Inventor: William R. Patent number: 5085232Abstract: Cigarettes which yield low levels of visible sidestream smoke upon use employ a paper wrapping material having about 25 weight percent magnesium hydroxide, about 15 weight percent calcium carbonate and about 60 weight percent flax. The wrapping material has an inherent permeability of about 20 CORESTA units. The wrapping material contains an amount of water soluble alkali metal salt sufficient to provide at least about 35 mg water soluble alkali metal ions per gram of dry base web. The alkali metal salt is such that the wrapping material includes a significantly greater level of potassium ions than sodium ions. The wrapping material includes at least one organic acid. The cigarette includes a filter element which has an organic acid incorporated therein. The cigarettes, when employed, provide cohesive ash which is not highly flakey.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1990Date of Patent: February 4, 1992Assignee: R. J. Reynolds Tobacco CompanyInventors: Mark L. Raker, William R. Cook, Donna J. Wilson

Patent number: 5056537Abstract: A cigarette comprises a blend of tobacco materials. The blend includes volume expanded flue-cured tobacco cut filler and a reconstituted tobacco material in cut filler form. The reconstituted tobacco material includes calcium carbonate and tobacco parts which are formed into a sheet-like shape using a papermaking process. The cigarette can include a filter element provided from a non-woven polypropylene web, glycerin and a water soluble tobacco extract. Such a cigarette can generate low levels of visible sidestream smoke.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1989Date of Patent: October 15, 1991Assignee: R. J. Reynolds Tobacco CompanyInventors: Thomas W. Brown, Glenn E. Creamer, William R. Cook, Alan B. Norman, Jerry W. Lawson, Barry L. Saintsing

Patent number: 4998541Abstract: Cigarettes which yield low levels of visible sidestream smoke upon use employ a paper wrapping material having about 25 weight percent magnesium hydroxide, about 15 weight percent calcium carbonate and about 60 weight percent flax. The wrapping material has an inherent permeability of about 12 CORESTA units and a net permeability of about 100 to about 130 CORESTA units. The wrapping material containing an amount of water soluble alkali metal salt sufficient to provide at least about 35 mg water soluble alkali metal ions per gram of dry base web. The alkali metal salt is such that the wrapping material includes a significantly greater level of potassium ions than sodium ions. the cigarettes, when employed, provide cohesive ash which is not highly flakey.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1989Date of Patent: March 12, 1991Assignee: R. Patent number: 4495928Abstract: A combination fuel heater and fuel filter for improving fuel consumption in an internal combustion engine. The heater and filter device provides heated and cleaned fuel prior to the fuel being introduced to the engine's carburator.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 1983Date of Patent: January 29, 1985Inventor: William R. Patent number: 4154643Abstract: An alkali metal-containing spent liquor is treated to recover the alkali metal content for reuse without the need for recycling furnace ash and forming solid pellets therefrom. A mixture of aluminum hydrate and alkali metal-containing waste liquor is directed through a heated furnace and dried to form granules of the aluminum hydrate and waste liquor solids, and the organic content of the granules are combusted and reacted to form granular alkali metal aluminate furnace ash. The granular furnace ash is removed from the furnace and treated to recover the alkali metal and to produce aluminum hydrate for reuse in the process.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 1978Date of Patent: May 15, 1979Assignee: Sonoco Products CompanyInventors: William R. Patent number: 3934154Abstract: This invention pertains to an ultraviolet light generator which mixes, or frequency doubles, light by means of a borate crystal such as AB.sub.5 O.sub.8.4H.sub.2 O where A=Ammonium (NH.sub.4), Potassium (K), Rubidium (Rb), or Cesium (Cs). This ultraviolet light generator is pumped with a dye laser capable of emitting coherent light of wavelengths from 4000 to 5600 A (Angstroms) to generate phase matched second harmonics between about 2150 A and 2650 A, a range not readily attained by systems using other crystals.Type: GrantFiled: February 18, 1975Date of Patent: January 20, 1976Inventor: William R.
