Publication number: 20250179796Abstract: Structures including a curved corrugated wall fabricated from a plurality of layers formed of one or more shaped strips and methods of forming the structures are described. A shaped strip used in the fabrication includes a variable profile across the width of the strip with a first edge of a strip defining a series of cell profiles of a first geometric shape and a second, opposite edge of the strip defining a series of cell profiles of a second, different geometric shape, with each cell transitioning from the first profile to the second profile across the width of the strip. The geometry of the cell profiles at either end of each cell can be designed with respect to one another to allow for radial orientation of the strip about an axis with little or no deformation or stress on the strip edges.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 23, 2025Publication date: June 5, 2025Applicants: BATTELLE SAVANNAH RIVER ALLIANCE, LLC, UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF ENERGYInventors: KURT R. EBERL, JOSHUA P. FLACH, JAMES M. SHULER, PAUL S. BLANTON, WILLIAM R. JOHNSON

Publication number: 20250083081Abstract: Passive dehumidifiers for environmental control units (ECUs) are presented. In embodiments, the passive dehumidifier may include a plenum with an intake to receive an airflow with moisture (e.g., water droplets, water vapor, etc.) present. Upon entering the passive dehumidifier, the airflow may experience a reduction in inertia and a change from a first direction to a second direction. The directional change may be sharp enough (e.g., greater than 90 degrees) that the moisture in the airflow are not able to follow the airflow and are instead directed to impinge and be collected on a collector wall, which may include one or more hydrophilic surfaces facilitating the impinged water droplets to form a liquid film upon impact on the collector wall. The film may collapse due to gravity and may be drained out through and/or on a hydrophilic screen mesh (e.g., hydrophilic screen mesh surface) on the collector wall surface(s).Type: ApplicationFiled: September 7, 2023Publication date: March 13, 2025Applicant: Textron Innovations, Inc.Inventors: Robert Herkimer, Shahryar Fotovati, William R. Johnson, Gary J. Coleman, JR.
