Patent number: 7362357Abstract: An apparatus and method for estimating the power spectral density of an unknown illuminant that does not require direct spectral measurements. The apparatus and method allows calibration of color images taken with commercially available digital cameras in arbitrary illumination. Besides an imaging system, a digital computer, a means for transferring image information from the imaging system to the digital computer, and software to carry out the method, the only additional equipment a photographer needs is a set of color standards.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 2002Date of Patent: April 22, 2008Assignee: Signature Research, Inc.Inventors: Wade W. Brown, William R. Reynolds, John W. Hilgers

Patent number: 5325034Abstract: An emergency power circuit powers an induction motor which has at least first and second windings. The motor is normally operating at a normal speed determined by connection to commercial frequency power line, but which is subject to failure. During failure the emergency power circuit is used to supply emergency power from a DC storage battery. An inverter is supplied by the battery and has an output connectable to the motor. A control circuit for the inverter establishes a first frequency to run the motor at a running speed which is considerably less than the normal speed. Single, two-phase and three-phase systems are disclosed as well as a soft start system to start the motor at about one-fourth speed and run it at one-half speed. Preferably a high frequency oscillator is used with the frequency divided dozen to operate the motor at a speed below normal 60 Hz energization speed.Type: GrantFiled: January 7, 1992Date of Patent: June 28, 1994Inventors: William R. Reynolds, deceased, by Renata C. Reynolds, executor

Patent number: 4695784Abstract: A battery charging circuit includes a silicon controlled rectifier full wave bridge that has its input connected across a conventional 60 hertz alternating current power line. The output of the bridge provides 120 hertz pulsating direct current to the battery being charged. The duration of each direct current charging pulse is determined by phase triggering of the silicon controlled rectifiers in the bridge. The silicon controlled rectifiers are triggered at a predetermined, identical firing angles by a conventional unijunction transistor relaxation oscillator which in turn is regulated by an output voltage and output current sensing circuit that established the noted firing angles so as to regulate, and limit at desirable upper valves, the charging voltage and current applied to the battery.Type: GrantFiled: September 4, 1986Date of Patent: September 22, 1987Inventor: William R. Patent number: 4382221Abstract: A battery pack-containing solid state circuit, normally in a standby condition, automatically applies battery-generated power to a multi-power requirement load a predetermined time period subsequent to detection of a malfunction in the load's normal power source. In switching to its power-applying state, the circuit disconnects the load from its malfunctioning power source and energizes the load at a level consistent with the battery pack capabilities. The circuit includes a unique fold-back-characterized, overcurrent-protected inverter and a temperature-compensated battery charger. A low battery voltage sensor exhibiting hysteresis characteristics inhibits operation of the circuit when the battery voltage drops below a predetermined level indicative of a discharge condition, the low voltage sensor continuing to inhibit operation of the circuit until a battery voltage charging input regains a level in excess of the predetermined level at which the discharge battery initially inhibited circuit operation.Type: GrantFiled: June 12, 1981Date of Patent: May 3, 1983Inventor: William R. Reynolds
