  • Patent number: 11810680
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods useful for the construction and operation of a Modular Integrated Gas High-Temperature Reactor (MIGHTR). The MIGHTR includes a reactor core assembly disposed at least partially within a core baffle within a first high-pressure shell portion, a thermal transfer assembly disposed at least partially within a flow separation barrel within a second high-pressure shell portion. The longitudinal axes of the first high-pressure shell portion and the second high-pressure shell portion may be collinear. The reactor core assembly may be accessed horizontally for service, maintenance, and refueling. The core baffle may be flexibly displaceably coupled to the flow separation barrel. Coolant gas flows through the reactor core assembly and into the thermal transfer assembly where the temperature of the coolant gas is reduced. A plurality of coolant gas circulators circulate the cooled coolant gas from the thermal transfer assembly to the reactor core assembly.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 9, 2020
Date of Patent: November 7, 2023
    Assignee: BOSTON ATOMICS, LLC
Inventors: Enrique Velez Lopez, William Robb Stewart

  • Patent number: 10830060
Abstract: An apparatus for cooling an engine component such as a turbine engine airfoil, including a wall bounding an interior extending axially between a leading edge and a trailing edge and radially between a root and a tip. A cooling circuit it located within the interior of the airfoil can include a flow enhancer permitting a volume of fluid, such as air, to pass around the flow enhancer.

Date of Patent: November 10, 2020
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Emily Rosette Clark, Julienne LaChance, William Robb Stewart, Todd Garrett Wetzel
  • Patent number: 10577944
Abstract: An apparatus and method for cooling an engine component, such as an airfoil, for a turbine engine including an outer wall separating a cooling fluid flow from a hot fluid flow. A cooling circuit including a cooling passage having opposing sidewalls can be provided in the engine component. At least one turbulator can be provided between the opposing sidewalls, and can include a conduit having an inlet and an outlet passing through the at least one turbulator.

Date of Patent: March 3, 2020
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Emily Rosette Clark, James Richard Winka, Daniel Robinson Getsinger, Thomas Earl Dyson, Brian Gene Brzek, James Fredric Wiedenhoefer, William Robb Stewart
  • Patent number: 10550717
Abstract: Thermal degradation monitoring systems and methods determine at least one operating parameter of equipment that defines prior usage of the equipment, determine at least one thermal characteristic of the equipment using one or more thermal imaging cameras, determine whether both the at least one operating parameter and the at least one thermal characteristic indicate thermal degradation of the equipment, and implement one or more remedial actions on the equipment to change a state of the equipment in response to determining that the at least one operating parameter and the at least one thermal characteristic indicate thermal degradation of the equipment.
