Abstract: The invention describes a method and system for improving the output quality of an image forming device. The method and system enable the image forming device to generate and display notifications to a user. The notifications provide possible suggestions to the user to improve the output quality of the documents to be processed. The image forming device generates the notifications, based on the properties of the document to be processed.

Abstract: Images may be arranged in a minimal number of media areas through a recurring process of positioning an image within a white space of the media area and subdividing the white space into an image space in which the image is positioned, a second white space, and a third white space. The second white space occupies a region of the first white space not occupied by the first image along a first direction while the third white space occupies a region of the first white space not occupied by the image along a second direction. Then, subsequent images may be positioned within the unoccupied white spaces if the images spatially fit in one of an original or rotated orientation. As images are placed into unoccupied white spaces, the white spaces may be further subdivided.

Abstract: An operating system for managing data in a computer including a printer properties dialog module, a printer data module and a conflict dialog module. The printer properties dialog module contains GUI code to generate a graphic-user interface (GUI) for a printer. The printer data module is coupled to and receives data from the printer properties dialog module. The printer data module contains operating code for the printer and causes it to execute predetermined actions corresponding to GUI commands received from the printer properties dialog module. The conflict dialog module is coupled to the printer data module and contains a list of conflicts. Each conflict corresponds to a printer condition and a printer action. The GUI code of the printer properties dialog module, the operating code of the printer data module and the list of conflicts of the conflict dialog module are independently modifiable.

The operating system includes a printer properties main dialog module, a printer data module and a conflict dialog module. The printer properties main dialog module contains a GUI code to generate a graphic-user interface (GUI) for displaying data for a printer coupled to the computer. The printer data module is coupled to the printer properties main dialog module and receives data from the printer properties main dialog module. The printer data module contains an operating code for operating the printer and can cause the printer to execute a predetermined action corresponding to a computer command initiated at the GUI and received from the printer properties main dialog module. The conflict dialog module is coupled to and owned by the printer data module. The conflict dialog module contains a list of conflicts.
