Publication number: 20010033863Abstract: A substrate is robotically picked up at a station and transported to a measuring station to measure the distance to a reference. The substrate is aligned to a robot before measurement. The measured substrate is then transported to a pharmaceutical or diagnostic powder/grain deposition station where the powder/grains are controllably deposited on the substrate to predetermined thicknesses over a plurality of powder/grain collection zones. The deposited powder/grains are then measured to determine the thickness and area covered by the deposited powder/grains at each collection zone. The substrate is then transported to a lamination station and each collection zone of powder/grains is welded to a cover substrate. The system remembers which collection zones are out of specification so that they can be later selectively discarded.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 31, 2001Publication date: October 25, 2001Applicant: Delsys Pharmaceutical CorporationInventors: Suggy S. Patent number: 6259838Abstract: A display as for images and/or information comprises a plurality of linearly addressed light-emitting fibers disposed in side-by-side arrangement to define a viewing surface. Each light-emitting fiber includes a plurality of light-emitting elements disposed along its length which is linearly addressed by signals provided by a drive circuit at one end thereof. Linear addressing signals are either optical signals or electrical signals, and may be frequency modulated, digitally encoded or analog encoded. A detector associated with each pixel detects the linear addressing signal and decodes same to activate and deactivate organic or inorganic light-emitting material elements. Thus, the light-emitting elements emit light to display a pixel or sub-pixel of the image and/or information. The light-emitting fiber may include a transparent fiber as substrate for propagating the optical signals therethrough and may include electrical conductors disposed along its length for propagating the electrical signals.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1999Date of Patent: July 10, 2001Assignee: Sarnoff CorporationInventors: Bawa Singh, William Ronald Roach, Satyam Choudary Cherukuri, Peter John Zanzucchi, Israel Kalish, James Harold Atherton

Patent number: 6201518Abstract: A plasma display device having three-electrode pixels. Each pixel may be set either in a write state or in a sustain state by a pair of select electrodes. In the write state the pixel may be set either ON or OFF. A pixel is put in a write state when the AC signals applied to the select electrodes are in phase. Once the signals applied to the select electrodes are in phase, the pixel may be set ON or OFF depending on the phase of the signal applied to a data electrode. In the sustain state the pixel remains either ON or OFF regardless of the signal applied to the data electrode. A pixel is put in a sustain state when out-of-phase signals are applied to the pair of select electrodes. The pixels in the display are arranged in rows and columns. Each pixel column has a single data electrode, and each pixel row has a pair of select electrodes associated with it. Pixels in unselected rows may be illuminated concurrently with the writing into pixels in selected rows.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1998Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Sarnoff CorporationInventors: Michael Gillis Kane, William Ronald Roach

Patent number: 4013345Abstract: A deformable mirror light valve includes a plurality of substantially transparent parallel electrodes which are disposed on one surface of a transparent substrate. The electrodes are electrically insulated from each other. A photoconductor layer is on the transparent electrodes and an elastomer layer is on the photoconductor layer. A deformable mirror is on the elastomer layer. The plurality of electrodes permit the biasing voltage for each area on the light valve to be optimally phased with respect to the scanning of that area. Consequently, the use of this device provides for a substantially uniform deformation intensity, i.e., read out intensity, over the entire area of the light valve.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1975Date of Patent: March 22, 1977Assignee: RCA CorporationInventor: William Ronald Roach
