Methods and systems for using mobile device-based crash detection to trigger vehicle data collection
Patent number: 12718683Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for selectively collecting vehicle sensor data in response to a vehicle crash detection, which can conserve computing resources. A backend server system can perform the techniques to evaluate the severity of a potential crash or for another purpose. As one example, the backend server system can receive an indication of a potential crash of a vehicle from a user device executing a first model. In response, the backend server system can transmit a request for vehicle sensor data to a third-party server. The backend server system can receive the vehicle sensor data from the third party server. The vehicle sensor data can be obtained from the vehicle for a time range preceding the potential crash, thereby conserving computing resources. The backend server system can then determine a severity of the potential crash by executing a second model on the vehicle sensor data.Type: GrantFiled: December 15, 2023Date of Patent: August 25, 2026Assignee: Cambridge Mobile Telematics Inc.Inventor: William Ryan Kreamer -
Patent number: 12610212Abstract: A method includes executing a data collection application over a time interval, and requesting, by the data collection application, movements measured by a sensor arrangement of a mobile phone from an operating system of the mobile phone. The movements are measured before execution of the data collection application. The method also includes receiving, by the data collection application and from the operating system, a set of movements and transmitting, by the data collection application, the movements to a server during the time interval.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2024Date of Patent: April 21, 2026Assignee: Cambridge Mobile Telematics Inc.Inventors: Matthew Evan Lewin, Joseph Patrick Adelmann, William Ryan Kreamer, William Abildgaard, Jr., Ankit Singhania, Bryan Scott

Publication number: 20250239112Abstract: Systems, devices, and methods for verifying mobile telematics with vehicle information can include receiving, from a mobile device, first trip information recorded by the mobile device during a trip undertaken by a connected vehicle; in response to receiving the first trip information from the mobile device, transmitting a request for second trip information stored on the connected vehicle; receiving the second trip information; and verifying that the mobile device was in the connected vehicle based on the first trip information and the second trip information. Methods include comparing mobile device telematics information with telematics information received from a vehicle to confirm that the telematics information accumulated by the mobile device corresponds to a vehicle and a trip.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 8, 2025Publication date: July 24, 2025Applicant: Cambridge Mobile Telematics Inc.Inventors: William Ryan Kreamer, Benjamin Bowne

Patent number: 11910272Abstract: A method includes receiving, by a mobile device, a notification, executing, in response to receiving the notification, a data collection application over a time interval, and requesting, by the data collection application, sensor measurements from an operating system of the mobile device. The sensor measurements are collected prior to receiving the notification and before execution of the data collection application. The method also includes receiving, by the data collection application and from the operating system, a set of sensor measurements and transmitting, by the data collection application, the sensor measurements to a server during the time interval. The data collection application terminates upon expiration of the time interval.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2022Date of Patent: February 20, 2024Assignee: Cambridge Mobile Telematics Inc.Inventors: Matthew Evan Lewin, Joseph Patrick Adelmann, William Ryan Kreamer, William Abildgaard, Jr., Ankit Singhania, Bryan Scott
