  • Patent number: 4911336
Abstract: A valve in which standardized, interchangeable components are used for converting the valve to use either in a manually operated pump or an aerosol valve. A poppet member is reciprocable in a valve chamber between a flexible valve housing and a main cylinder housing. By making minor modifications to the poppet member and cylinder housing the valve can be adapted or converted to use either in a manually operated pump dispenser or an aerosol dispenser. Unique valve retaining means for attaching a valve to a container is also disclosed. In one form, snap detents secure together peripheral flanges of the valve housing and cylinder housing and also secure the housings to the container neck. In another form, interfitting structure on the flanges align the housings relative to one another, and a gasket is interposed between the flanges so as to seal the flanges relative to one another and relative to the container neck, with a retaining ferrule engaging and securing the flanges to the container neck.

  • Patent number: 4887743
Abstract: An aerosol valve (10) adapted to be secured to the neck of a container (C) may be manufactured from synthetic plastic material and includes a main body (11), a flexible valve housing and seat member (26) secured and sealed to the main body, and a poppet valve (35) freely reciprocable in the space defined between the main body and flexible housing. The flexible housing (26) has a valve seat (33) and the poppet valve (35) has a valve head (36) arranged to seat on the valve seat. The main body has a poppet retainer (24, 25) and the poppet valve has a tail piece (37) with a detent (38) thereon in a position to cooperate with the retainer on the main body to limit movement of the poppet valve. The flexible housing includes a diaphragm (29) with a preset bias tending to close the valve head on the valve seat, and an actuator (46) may be manipulated to overcome the bias and unseat the valve head from the seat to enable flow of product from the container.

  • Patent number: 4699300
Abstract: A self-closing two-piece dispensing closure for dispensing product from squeeze-type containers, in which a rigid closure member (11) is adapted to be secured to a container neck, and a flexible diaphragm valving member (14) is snap-fitted to the rigid member for relative rotation therebetween. The members have complementally shaped, concentrically disposed posts (18, 33) nested together and defining a valve seat (20) and valve lip (34) which opens to dispense product when the container is squeezed and closes automatically when pressure on the container is released.

  • Patent number: 4699301
Abstract: A two-piece dispensing closure in which a relatively soft inner seal member is positioned beneath a rigid outer closure member. The inner seal member effects a seal between the outer member and the neck of the container, and enables the parts to be snapped together. Further, the closure may be snap fitted to the container, which may have either an injection blow molded neck finish or an extrusion blow molded neck finish. In one form of the invention, a pivoted plug is carried by the outer member for insertion in an opening formed in the inner member. In another form of the invention, the plug is fixed relative to the outer member and the inner member flexes relative thereto. In a still further form of the invention, the outer member has a valve seat and the flexible inner member carries a plug for cooperation with the seat.

  • Patent number: 4679714
Abstract: The metering device is adapted to be installed on the neck of a liquid product container so that, when the container is upended or otherwise oriented to supply the device with liquid, actuation of the device results in the release of a pre-sized dose of the product by gravity. Several different embodiments of the invention are disclosed, all but one of which adapt the device for filling its dosage accumulation chamber when the device is in a standby condition ready for dispensing. The other embodiment adapts the device to maintain its dosage accumulation chamber normally empty and to fill such chamber only upon temporary actuation.

  • Patent number: 4241853
Abstract: A multi-function dispenser may be adjusted to obtain a spray or stream of the material dispensed, either as a long duration discharge of the material or as intermittent discharges corresponding to actuation of a trigger actuator, or as a continuous discharge during actuations of the trigger, depending upon functional design variables. Structure is provided for storing an accumulated amount of material upon repeated operations of the trigger, for subsequent prolonged discharge of the material, or the accumulating structure may be bypassed for intermittent discharges of the material as the trigger is operated, or the accumulating structure may function as a holding chamber whereby a continuous discharge of the material may be obtained while the trigger is being operated.

  • Patent number: 4225061
Abstract: A manually operated fluid dispensing device includes a first body component formed with a pump chamber and an upwardly opening cavity providing a valve housing that is closed by a second mating body component or cover having a projection that extends into the valve housing. A flat pliable valve element is clamped between said body components, said element being imperforate except for an opening through which said projection extends. A compressible bellows is associated with the pump chamber to form a variable volume pump chamber. The parts are all fabricated of thermoplastic materials and molding resins, the mating body components each being molded as a simple member of rigid plastic and including all passageways, grooves and ring seals required in the device.

  • Patent number: 4191313
Abstract: A trigger operated dispenser includes a plurality of chambers with movable members therein, and operable to draw material from a container, pressurize it, accumulate a quantity of material under pressure, and discharge the material to a point of use. An adjustable member communicates with the chambers for selectively obtaining either continuous or intermittent discharge of the material.

  • Patent number: 4183449
Abstract: A spray dispenser is presented which atomizes cosmetics, perfumes, and similar products to a state of fine spray throughout its entire spraying period. The pressure of the fluid product being sprayed is maintained by a spring loaded piston and a related valve which opens a passage to the spray outlet only after a predetermined spray pressure is reached and closes it when the pressure approaches a pressure insufficient to produce the fine spray.

  • Patent number: 4155487
Abstract: In one trigger operated dispenser pump a variable volume pump chamber is formed by a flexible bulb having a flange on its upper end which serves as a gasket and carries depending flaps which form inlet and outlet check valves for the chamber. In two other arrangements, the pump chamber is formed by a piston and cylinder and the valve element is a separate member surrounding a cavity open to the pump chamber. A novel vent valve permits replacement air into the container on which the pump is used.

  • Patent number: 4088248
Abstract: A two-piece flexible bulb is clamped on the open upper end of a container by a ferrule which seals against the upper section of the bulb. A dispenser head mounted on a pressure pad on the upper bulb section includes a bayonet valve stem which engages a flap-type outlet valve formed on the upper bulb section. Depressing the head sufficiently distorts the bulb which creates pressure in the chamber, and also compresses the pressure pad which permits the valve stem to open the outlet valve. Depressing the upper bulb section breaks the seal between the bulb and the ferrule, thus, allowing air into the container to replace the product which is sucked into the chamber through a flap-type check valve in the lower bulb section, after the dispenser head is released. In alternate arrangements, the flap valves are replaced by flexible valve openings which cooperate with valve stems to open the valves when the bulbs are distorted by depressing the dispenser heads.

  • Patent number: 3986644
Abstract: A resiliently deformable diaphragm having a central domed portion surrounded by a marginal flange, has its flange clamped between opposing members of the pump housing whereby the central domed portion of the housing co-operates with one of the members to define a variable volume pump chamber. The convex side of the dome is received within a central opening in the other member and normally seats over and closes a vent port within said opening. An actuating lever fulcrumed on the housing has an arm movable upwardly through the said opening to deforming engagement with the diaphragm dome to alternately compress and to permit expansion of the dome.
