  • Patent number: 5486094
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for mounting fan blades to a ceiling fan with a mounting bracket and support arms which support each of the fan blades at two separate points. The mounting bracket is mounted to a motor for the ceiling fan and rotates in response to powering the motor. The fan blades are each secured to the mounting bracket at first points. The support arms have inward portions which are rigidly secured to the mounting bracket. The support arms extend from beneath the fan blades in a spaced apart relation with the fan blades. The support arms extend outward from a central axis for the ceiling fan to second support points on the lower sides of the ceiling fan blades. The second support points are disposed outward from the mounting brackets for reinforcing mounting of the fan blades to the motor.

  • Patent number: 5454692
Abstract: A ceiling fan has a downrod assembly with an upper end adapted to be mounted to a ceiling and a lower end adapted to be mounted to a motor. A motor is mounted to the lower end of the downrod assembly. A set of fan blades is fastened to the motor. A substantially flat metal top has a central opening through which the downrod assembly extends. The metal top is fastened to a flange on the lower end of the downrod assembly. An annular cylindrical glass sidewall has an upper circumferential edge adapted to mate a circumferential portion of the metal top. A substantially flat glass bottom is integrally joined to a lower edge of the sidewall. The glass bottom has a central opening through which the fan blades of the ceiling fan extend. Elongate fasteners extend through holes in the metal top and through holes in the glass bottom and secure the integrally joined sidewall and bottom to the metal top wherein a translucent ceiling fan housing is formed.

  • Patent number: 5404284
Abstract: A light fixture for mounting to the switch housing of a ceiling fan is provided for giving the light fixture an integral appearance with the ceiling fan. The light fixture has a hollow base which has an upper surface and a bottom which are spaced apart. The upper surface of light fixture is defined by a periphery which is surrounded by an upper portion of the base. The upper portion and upper surface define a recess for receiving the lower portion of the switch housing. In another embodiment, a light pan is mounted to the bottom of the base. The light pan is a circular member having a lower surface and a substantially flat inner portion. The pan is provided with an upwardly extending outer flange located around the periphery. The pan has a diameter which is substantially greater than the width of the base so that the base is not visible when viewed from below. A light or lights are attached to the lower surface of the light pan.
