  • Patent number: 4760697
Abstract: A mechanical power regeneration system for a movable object comprising a sole variable displacement hydraulic pump being driven by the movable object, a first check valve connected between the output side of the pump and a first hydraulic line of a high pressure accumulator unit, a second hydraulic line of a low pressure accumulator unit, a second check valve connected between the second hydraulic line and the input side of the pump, a first controlled valve connected between the first hydraulic line and the input side of the pump and a second controlled valve connected between the second hydraulic line and the output side of the pump. When the movable object is to be slowed down by placing it in a braking mode, hydraulic fluid is transferred by the pump from the low pressure accumulator to the high pressure accumulator.

  • Patent number: 4679396
Abstract: Engine BMEP being a major contributor to the gap between conventional automobile road fuel mileage and the theoretically possible, indicates the desirability of a continuously variable road wheel/engine speed ratio. There is described a double swash plate, regenerative, hydrostatic system, with a mechanical bypass. The two swash plates facilitate optimization of hydraulic parameters as well as engine BMEP and the rear one which is the primary controller permits modulation of regenerated energy in both directions, with optimum efficiency and facility.

  • Patent number: 4038868
Abstract: A transducer for mounting on the rocker arm used for operating the unit injectors of diesel engines comprising a bowed strip of metal, a strain gauge element rigidly attached to a central portion of the inner or outer surface of the bowed element, an encapsulation layer of epoxy resin covering the strain gauge element and the bowed strip over most of its central extent, the ends of the bowed strip being adapted for rigid fixing into two openings spaced apart in the longitudinal direction in the surface of the rocker arm structure of a diesel engine.

  • Patent number: 4027536
Abstract: A transducer for diesel fuel injection monitoring comprising a barrel-shaped housing made of strong metal encompassing the fuel line tube and fixedly attached to the tube circumferentially at outer positions and defining an enclosed annular volume, a pressure measuring element positioned in the said volume away from the fuel tube and adjacent the inner wall of the housing, and a solid cold flowing material completely filling the volume between the fuel tube and the housing with the pressure measuring embedded therein. In a preferred version of the transducer is split to enable easy installation.

  • Patent number: 3939703
Abstract: Apparatus for measuring engine cylinder pressures having an arcuate metal strip, means for mounting the strip at one end to the engine block and at the other to the engine head such that the strip spans the engine head gasket and strains in the gasket cause bowing of the metal strip, and a transducer mounted on the strip for measuring the amount of bowing of the strip and providing an output signal related to this. A preferred means for mounting the strip is metal dowels attached to the end of the strip and rigidly mounted in openings in the cylinder head and block and the preferred transducer comprises a pair of resistance element strain gauges mounted on the inside and the outside of the arcuate portion of the metal strip.

  • Patent number: 3937087
Abstract: A transducer for diesel fuel injection for monitoring which has a strain detector mounted on the circumference of the fuel line tube such that expansion and contraction of the tube cause variations of the output of the detector, a plastic sleeve covering the resistance element at least in some part, a torpedo-shaped housing made of strong metal encompassing the tube and the resistance element mounted thereon and rigidly attached to the tube circumferentially at outer positions away from the resistance element, the housing defining an annular space between the housing and the tube and containing the resistance element and the sleeve, a strong adhesive material filling the said space, and electrical leads from the resistance element passing to the exterior through openings in the housing.
