  • Patent number: 5490885
Abstract: A method of treating a blank of an aluminium base alloy comprising a combination of heat treatments and cold forming operations to produce a highly recovered semi-fabricated wrought product that is not statically recrystallized and that is inherently non-superplastic and is capable of superplastic deformation only after an initial non-superplastic deformation to achieve dynamic recrystallization.

  • Patent number: 5442687
Abstract: An operator/facsimile interface enables entry of alpha-numeric data from a telephone-style keyboard. Alteration of displayed alpha-numeric characters may be accomplished by actuation of arrow keys, or sequential key presses of an alpha-numeric key. A displayed alpha-numeric character may be entered by actuation of an arrow key, an Enter key or a different alpha-numeric key. Completion of an alpha-numeric entry may be signaled by actuation of a Start key or Enter key. An offer of help message is automatically displayed for the operator if a preset time expires between sequential key presses or if the average time over a plurality of sequential key presses exceeds a predetermined average.

  • Patent number: 5284267
Abstract: A fuel injection apparatus for a vehicle includes a throttle body having an air flow passage extending therethrough with a throttle plate mounted in the passage. At least one fuel injector is mounted below the throttle plate and above the intake manifold of the engine for cyclically injecting fuel into the air flow passage extending between the throttle body and the inlet of the intake manifold. A full time, closed loop feedback control system monitors exhaust gas content and adjusts the fuel flow based on the measured air/fuel ratio. A tank storing gaseous fuel at a high pressure is connected to the fuel injector via fluid flow conduits. An annular recess is formed on at least one location on the side wall of the tank. Annular shoulders are disposed on opposite sides of the recess and extend outward above the side wall of the tank. A mounting bracket is mounted in the recess surrounding the tank and is attachable to the vehicle to mount the tank to the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5018909
Abstract: A powder feed hopper includes a housing which mounts a porous plate adapted to support particulate powder material and receive an upwardly directed flow of fluidizing air to form an air-entrained fluidized bed in the housing above the porous plate. In order to improve fluidization, a baffle plate is mounted beneath the porous plate in the path of the pressurized air discharged from one or more air nozzles to create a circulating flow of air-entrained particulate powder material within the fluidized bed in which the flow moves upwardly along the wall of the housing and then inwardly and downwardly toward the center of the porous plate. Additionally, stirrer blades are located immediately above the porous plate to create turbulence and reduce the formation of concentrated channels of air atop the porous plate.

  • Patent number: 4818411
Abstract: A deoxygenation process includes the steps of adding hydrazine to a liquid containing dissolved oxygen, passing the liquid through a bed of activated carbon to catalyze a reaction between the dissolved oxygen and hydrazine whereby carbon contaminants are added to the liquid, and removing the contaminants. In another embodiment, unreacted hydrazine that remains in the liquid following the catalysis is removed by passing the liquid through an ion exchange resin. In still another embodiment, an activated carbon-catalyzed deoxygenation process employing hydrazine is practiced on a mobile platform and the process further includes the steps of transporting the apparatus to a regenerating station for regeneration. The invention also includes apparatus for carrying out the process.

  • Patent number: 4675108
Abstract: A process for treating wash water from the manufacture of terephthalic acid, wherein the wash water includes terephthalic acid, metal catalyst, and organic acid byproducts. The process includes the steps of passing the wash water through a filter medium to remove undissolved terephthalic acid solids, passing the filtered water through a cation exchange resin in hydrogen ion form to remove the metal catalysts, and passing the water through an anion exchange resin to remove dissolved terephthalic acid and dissolved organic acid byproducts. The treated water and certain components removed from the wash water are recovered and reused in the manufacture of additional terephthalic acid. An apparatus in which the process is practiced is also described and, after a quantity of wash water has been treated, the apparatus is regenerated with regenerants that are also recovered and reused in the manufacture of additional terephthalic acid.

  • Patent number: 4172783
Abstract: There is provided an improvement in the method of regenerating the anion portion of a mixed anion/cation exchange resin bed used for purification of condensate water. The improvement comprises utilizing a clear dilute lime solution substantially free of non-hydroxylic anions. This solution is produced by passing a solution of calcium salt through a strong base anion exchanger in the hydroxyl form, and thus producing calcium hydroxide by salt splitting. The spent resin is regenerated with spent caustic regenerant from a condensate purification process or with fresh caustic. It is preferred that the calcium solution and the regenerant enter the ion exchanger in counterflow pattern to minimize leakage of non-hydroxy ions.
