  • Patent number: 10005681
Abstract: The present invention includes systems and methods for treatment of seawater RO system for recovering most of the water (i.e., 85-90%) from the concentrate of a brackish groundwater reverse osmosis treatment system that may use, e.g., a batch method. With proper pH control and antiscalant dosage, the batch-treatment SWRO system of the present invention can be used to recover water from silica-saturated RO concentrate without fouling the membranes. Silica concentrations of over 1,000 mg/L are attainable with relatively minimal pre-treatment of the silica-saturated feed solution.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 30, 2017
Date of Patent: June 26, 2018
Assignee: THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS SYSTEM
Inventors: Anthony J. Tarquin, William S. Walker, Guillermo G. Delgado

  • Publication number: 20170166455
Abstract: A solar powered thermal distillation system and method includes a solar still having a first end and an opposite second end with a longitudinal access extending between the first end and the opposite second end, the solar still further having a raised side and an opposite lowered side with a width axis extending between the raised side and the opposite lowered side. A solar-transmitting roof is located atop the solar still, wherein the solar-transmitting roof admits solar energy to equipment maintained within the solar still. The solar sill also includes a heating surface inclined along a direction aligned with or parallel to the width axis so that water flows down the heating surface along or parallel with the width axis, and a tubular member extending below the heating surface between the raised side and the opposite lowered side.

  • Publication number: 20160122206
Abstract: A solar distillation system includes a solar collector located adjacent to a condenser, the condenser located at an angle with respect to the condenser. The solar distillation system further includes a 2nd effect and an insulated portion located between the condenser and the 2nd effect. The solar collector, the condenser, the insulated portion, and the 2nd effect function to desalinate and purify saltwater or brackish water flowing through the solar distillation system.

  • Patent number: 5165453
Abstract: A secondary containment system for conduits, pipes and electric cables includes a plurality of separate duct sections connected in end-to-end relation to provide an electrically insulating fluid tight system. Each duct section includes a pair of generally Z-shaped structural members formed from a fiber reinforced plastic material with each structural member including top and bottom flanges for supporting a removable top cover panel and a rigidly joined bottom panel. The structural member top flanges are preferably shaped to deflect the top cover panel to present an outwardly convex top surface to prevent the collection of condensate and other fluids.

  • Patent number: 5139420
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a dental mirror system having a fluid conduit to provide a stream of fluid across the surface of the mirror to remove material from the mirror surface. The dental mirror system can also be provided with a light-transmitting cable to illuminate the work area and/or a suction conduit to remove material from the mouth of the patient.
