Publication number: 20140130566Abstract: A hydraulic expander for use in a tube containing a U-bend region is disclosed and claimed. The tool includes a sheath for transmitting hydraulic fluid therethrough to an inflatable bladder. The sheath is flexible, allowing it to be inserted through the U-bend region of the tube. The bladder is fluidly connected to the sheath and is thereby in fluid communication with a supply of hydraulic fluid. The length of the bladder and the metal end caps, along with the centering spacers on the expansion sheath, allows it to pass through the U-bend region of the tube such that it can be positioned inside the tube adjacent to a support outside the tube, such as an AVB. Hydraulic expansion of the bladder causes it to exert an outward force on the tube inner surface, causing it to plastically deform such that its outer surface comes into contact with the tube support, such as an AVB. This expansion will increase the friction between the tube and the AVB to minimize the risk of tube vibration damage.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2013Publication date: May 15, 2014Inventors: Bruce William Schafer, Jeffrey Lee Snow, Benjamin Joseph Hefner, Brian Cole Claiborne

Patent number: 6102105Abstract: A system for repairing leaks, cracks and crevices in a stator assembly of the type having a fluid cooling system. The system includes an anaerobically activated, liquid polymer curable sealant supply which is circulated through the fluid cooling system of the stator assembly. Sealant connectors place the sealant supply in fluid communication with the cooling system and a pump circulates the curable sealant supply through the cooling system to repair the leaks, cracks and crevices in the stator assembly. In the preferred embodiment, a secondary curing system provides an initial curing of the curable sealant to form a protective "skin" after the removal of the excess curable sealant from the fluid cooling system.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1997Date of Patent: August 15, 2000Assignee: Framatome Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Thomas E. Patent number: 6081553Abstract: A method for operating a data processing system to compress a first frame in an ordered sequence of image frames. A second frame precedes the first frame in the sequence of frames, and the second frame is preceded by a third frame in the sequence of frames. Each frame is divided into a plurality of processing blocks. The method first determines a displacement vector for at least one block in the second frame. The displacement vector identifies a region in the third frame that is an approximation of the block in the second frame. The displacement vectors in the second frame and measured vectors in the first frame are then used to determine an approximation for a displacement vector associated with one of the blocks in the first frame. This approximation is then used to define a search region in a frame preceding the first frame. The search region includes a plurality of sub-regions, each of the sub-regions having the same size as that block.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1998Date of Patent: June 27, 2000Assignee: Hewlett Packard CompanyInventors: Frederick Lee Kitson, Robert Marcus Armitano, Ronald William Schafer

Patent number: 5667252Abstract: A repair sleeve for installation in a parent tube by a sleeve expander of the type operable between an expanded state and an unexpanded state. The sleeve includes an elongated sleeve member having an outer wall and a bore sized and configured to receive the sleeve expander when the sleeve expander is in the unexpanded state. An engagement structure extends radially outward from the outer wall of the sleeve member for engagement with the interior surface of the parent tube. The engagement structure includes a plurality of circumferential teeth located along the outer wall of the sleeve member and at both ends of the sleeve member which are inclined to each other with respect to each of the ends. A plurality of peripheral lands are formed on the outer wall of the sleeve member, wherein the plurality of teeth are disposed between at least two of the peripheral lands located at each end of the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1995Date of Patent: September 16, 1997Assignee: Framatome Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Bruce William Schafer, Mark Aaron Sloman, Stanley Mark Gryder, Randal Ray Schaefer

Patent number: 4345430Abstract: Disclosed is a vehicle exhaust system containing a three-way catalytic converter. An insulated flexible duct connects the outlet of the engine exhaust manifold with the inlet of the three-way catalytic converter to retain the exhaust engine gases at a temperature greater than the ignition temperature of the three-way catalyst in the catalytic converter. The insulated flexible duct is preferably made of an inner flexible metal conduit surrounded by fibrous insulation which in turn is surrounded on the outside by a second flexible metal conduit. The system is economical, contains no active elements which would require maintenance or could get out of order, is adaptable to motor vehicles of all types (especially automobiles, light trucks and vans) including those powered by either gasoline and diesel engines and entirely eliminates the need for expensive and complicated light-off catalysts in the system.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1979Date of Patent: August 24, 1982Assignee: Manville Service CorporationInventors: John M. Patent number: 4015088Abstract: Apparatus for the real-time analysis of speech signals in which a digital signal representative of the speech signal is adaptive threshold center-clipped and infinite peak-clipped to form a signal comprising three logic states (+1,0,-1). The autocorrelation function of this signal is determined by a circuit which employs simple combinational logic and an updown counter circuit. Pitch period and voiced-unvoiced indication are determined from the location and magnitude of the peak value of the autocorrelation function. Additionally, a signal representative of the speech energy is provided by summing the digital speech signals over a predetermined time interval and intervals of silence are detected by comparing the speech energy in an interval of time with a predetermined or adaptively determined threshold energy.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1975Date of Patent: March 29, 1977Assignee: Bell Telephone Laboratories, IncorporatedInventors: John Joseph Dubnowski, Lawrence Richard Rabiner, Ronald William Schafer
