Patent number: 11174708Abstract: The disclosure is directed to a method and system to provide electrical current to a downhole tool, such as an active magnetic ranging tool. The electrical current can be transmitted through a drill string, with an end attached drilling assembly inserted into a wellbore. The downhole tool can include a power isolation sub to create an isolated electrical zone along the drill string. The downhole tool can transmit an electrical current along a designated portion of a subterranean formation to create a resultant magnetic field to be detected by the active magnetic ranging tool or other downhole tools. A drilling wellbore can maintain drilling operations while actively ranging a target well for intercept and other operations. The drilling assembly does not need to be removed from the wellbore to enable the activities of the active magnetic ranging tool, and access to the target wellbore is not needed.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2019Date of Patent: November 16, 2021Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: William Shaun Renshaw, Ryan David Zallas

Publication number: 20160273301Abstract: In some aspects, a downhole assembly is provided that can include a window joint positioned within a tubular element and a bypass restrictor. The bypass restrictor can be positioned in an annulus between an outer surface of the window joint and an inner surface of the tubular element. The bypass restrictor can restrict the flow of a pressurized fluid via the annulus from a first end to a second end of a wiper plug.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 14, 2013Publication date: September 22, 2016Inventors: Stuart Alexander Telfer, William Shaun Renshaw

Publication number: 20160201416Abstract: A downhole milling tool for cutting non-geological materials in a well includes a body having an elongated and substantially cylindrical wall defining an inner passage extending through a portion of the body. The body includes a coupling end capable of being coupled to a working string to rotate the body. A plurality of blades extends radially outward from the body, and each blade extends along a length of the body. Each blade is oriented substantially parallel to a longitudinal axis of the body or is arranged in a spiral or helical configuration on the body. A laser-deposited cladding material is coupled to the plurality of blades.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2013Publication date: July 14, 2016Applicant: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Andrew Scott Gendre, William Shaun Renshaw

Patent number: 8602097Abstract: Assemblies that can be disposed in a subterranean bore. An assembly can include a body with an opening in a wall of the body. A sleeve can be disposed exterior to the body at the opening. The sleeve can be made from material such as carbon fiber that can withstand at least some pressures and forces present in the subterranean environment and reduce a diameter of the body and sleeve. The assembly may also include an inner sleeve and/or an inner string that can isolate the sleeve from certain pressures and forces.Type: GrantFiled: March 18, 2010Date of Patent: December 10, 2013Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: Neil Hepburn, Epen Dahl, William Shaun Renshaw

Patent number: 8251145Abstract: A method of completing a wellbore having a branch wellbore extending outwardly from a window in a parent wellbore comprises positioning a tubular string in the window, wherein the positioning comprises deflecting the tubular string from the parent wellbore into the branch wellbore. The method also comprises providing a particulate barrier outside and against the tubular string proximate the window, the particulate barrier substantially excluding transport of particulate matter from the branch wellbore into the parent wellbore outside of the tubular string through the window. The method also comprises the tubular string passing fluid into the tubular string proximate the window from a formation proximate to the window while substantially excluding transport of particulate matter from the formation proximate to the window into the tubular string.Type: GrantFiled: February 6, 2012Date of Patent: August 28, 2012Assignee: Halliburton Energy Services, Inc.Inventors: William Shaun Renshaw, Steven Ronald Fipke
