  • Patent number: 9116569
Abstract: A portable electronic device comprises at least one force sensor configured to generate a force signal based at least in part on a force applied to a touch-sensitive display and a processor configured to receive the force signal and to provide a feedback signal when the force exceeds a force threshold. The at least one force sensor may be integrated into the touch-sensitive display.

  • Publication number: 20130321324
Abstract: The invention is a system for reducing finger-coupling capacitance of a touch-sensor panel such that finger-coupled noise signals do not overwhelm the sensing circuit and render the panel unable to detect the finger position.

  • Publication number: 20130220672
Abstract: The invention is a structure and method for creating areas of non-conducting or isolated conducting surfaces within an area of conducting surfaces such that the capacitance of said conducting surface is reduced relative to a proximate, essentially parallel, conducting surface.

  • Publication number: 20130140073
Abstract: A structure and method is disclosed for a routing structure for connecting the transparent conductive oxide (TCO) electrodes of a touch-sensor panel to a touch controller while providing the requisite cross-over routing. Routing is confined to the border area of a single glass panel where there is no need for transparency. By applying the TCO electrodes to the glass surface, first, and then applying the non-conducting artwork layer above them, there is no need to extend the TCO electrodes above the glass surface and, thereby, subject these thin and brittle electrodes to mechanical stress. Instead, vias are positioned in the artwork then filled with conductive plugs. These provide the connectivity between the TCO electrodes and metal traces above them.

  • Publication number: 20130100041
Abstract: The structure disclosed reduces the number of bonding pads and interconnect traces in the opaque portion of a single-layer touch panel. By sharing and multiplexing the bonding pads in the opaque portion of panel, half as many pads are needed to provide the interconnection bases for the traces in the opaque portion of the panel that extend to the control electronics subsystem. Further, by connecting the ground plane structures that are adjacent to each TCO column electrode, all ground planes are made part of a common ground-plane electrode. That single common ground-plane electrode can be connected to the appropriate trace and control electronic subsystem using a single pad, rather than several individual ground-plane pads.

  • Patent number: 7149399
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention a fiber optic array is provided. The array includes a substrate having a fiber support surface. The array further includes an optical fiber having a fiber portion that includes an un-jacketed, un-buffered optical core segment. The un-jacketed, un-buffered optical core segment is placed in contact with the fiber support surface to orient the optical core segment at a selected position relative to the support surface. In addition, the array includes a solder glass chemically bonded to the optical core segment and the fiber support surface so that the optical core segment is secured at a predetermined location relative to the support surface of the substrate. A method for fabricating such a fiber optic array is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20060049641
Abstract: An oven door latch system for a coke oven door positionable within an oven door opening and method of sealing a coke oven. The door latch system includes a rotary member rotatively attachable to the oven door. The rotary member has a wedge-shaped, arcuate engagement edge for variably engaging a striker plate on a buck stay member adjacent the oven door opening when the oven door is disposed in the opening of the oven. A tab member is also included on the rotary member. A remotely operated adjustment actuator is provided for engaging the tab member to rotate the rotary member in conjunction with an oven door opening or closing operation. Enhanced oven door sealing is provided by the rotary wedge latch system.
