  • Patent number: 10863239
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for provisioning or updating software over a network. In one embodiment, the network comprises a cable network, and each particular client device (e.g., set-top box) on the network is identified by an address or other unique descriptor. A version association file stored on a server or downloaded to the device maps particular application versions to one or more addresses corresponding to individual client devices. When the version association file is modified or created, the server transmits an upgrade message over the network (optionally along with the current version association file). Upon receiving an upgrade message, a set-top box accesses the version association file, and compares a designated application version to that of the application currently in use. If the designated version is not present on the set-top, the box will terminate any old version of the application currently running and download and install the designated version.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: December 8, 2020

  • Publication number: 20180324183
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for provisioning and providing services to devices on a local network are described. The methods and apparatus allow for the provisioning of services to customer owned and managed devices on a local network on which another device, e.g., a first device, has already been authenticated and authorized to receive services corresponding to a customer account. After a first device on a local network is authenticated and associated with a customer account it detects the addition of new devices on the local network and assists in the registration of the new device by acting as an intermediary with a service provider device during the registration process. The security and registration established by the first device is leveraged allowing other devices on the network to be registered and authenticated for services corresponding to the same account as the first device without requiring user input of authentication and/or other information.

  • Patent number: 8924999
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing individual customized content delivery features and services to service subscribers are described. Individual service subscribers are issued devices such an RFID chip or IR device such as a remote control capable of transmitting service subscriber identification signals and/or records. A set top box detects signals used to identify individual subscribers and determines a subscriber identifier corresponding to each of the identified subscriber(s) and/or receives service profile record and/or service preference information from the user device. Service and/or other customer records corresponding to detected service subscriber(s) are used to determine what services and/or features are to be provided, what program channels may be accesses, what recorded programs corresponding to a subscriber may be accessed and, in some embodiments, service preference information such as personal preferences/settings relating to program guide presentation.

  • Patent number: 5730060
Abstract: An apparatus for removing a rail anchor from a rail, the apparatus constructed and arranged to be mounted on a railway maintenance vehicle having a frame, and including a scraper for applying a preload against the anchor and for removing the anchor from the rail, and a pusher insert for applying vertical pressure against the anchor to impact and dislodge the anchor from the rail. An improved method for removing a rail anchor from a rail involves applying a preload or a horizontal scraping force against the first, curved end of the anchor with the scraper, applying vertical pressure against the second, knobbed end of the anchor with the pusher to impact and dislodge the anchor from the rail, and removing the dislodged anchor from the rail with the scraper.
