  • Patent number: 4441814
Abstract: A slitless spectrograph simultaneously records spectra of transient or moving light sources along with spectral references marks positioned alongside the spectra for calibration of unknown spectral lines. The reference marks are provided by groups of optical components which cause undispersed light from the unknown source to be focused on a film above or below the spectrum. The angles at which the light beams creating the references marks strike the grating of the spectrograph are specifically selected such that the rate of movement of the reference marks caused by a change in the incident angle of light from the light source into the spectrograph is related to the rate of change of the position of dispersed light which falls at the position of the reference mark when the spectrograph is precisely aimed at the light source.

  • Patent number: 4422829
Abstract: A drain system for a sump, including an electrically powered sump pump normally operable in response to the water level in the sump to drain the sump when the level reaches a predetermined point, and a water powered pump driven by a source of water under pressure and which operates in the event of an electrical power failure or in the event of a failure of the electrically driven pump.

  • Patent number: 4420463
Abstract: An apparatus for feeding slowly soluble water-soluble chemicals into the basin of a cooling tower which contains water. The device comprises a rigid mesh cylindrical drum having a bottom, sides, and an open top. It has at least one vertically positioned, spaced-apart fastening member positioned along the inside of the drum. Inside the drum is a plastic mesh bag, adapted to receive solid, slowly soluble water-soluble chemicals. This bag is affixed to a fastening member. Also, there are means positioned at the top of the plastic mesh cylindrical drum for suspending it below the water level of the basin of a cooling tower.

  • Patent number: 4386637
Abstract: An apparatus for safely slug feeding hazardous chemicals from conventional 55 gallon drums comprising a calibrated dip tube adapted to be moved in an up and down liquid-tight relationship through a first bung hole of the drum, a feed line adapted to remove liquid through the calibrated dip tube, check valve means adapted to prevent the flow of liquid into the drum, vacuum-producing means adapted to withdraw fluid from the drum through the dip tube, feed line, and check valve, and cleaning means adapted to be partially positioned within the drum through a second bung opening, said cleaning means including a spray nozzle positioned within the drum and air ventilation means outside of the drum, said spray means being adapted to receive a source of cleaning fluid under pressure. The dip tube may be fitted with a means for preventing its upward movement.
