Abstract: A system for transferring torque includes a first rotary plate coupled to a first rotational shaft extending along a first axial direction from a first plane of rotation of the first rotary plate, and a second rotary plate coupled to a second rotational shaft disposed along a second axial direction from a second plane of rotation of the second rotary plate, the second rotary plate spaced apart from the first rotary plate, wherein the first rotary plate is magnetically coupled to the second rotary plate by a plurality of magnet holding members, such that the torque applied to the first rotational shaft is transferred to the second rotational shaft.

Abstract: Systems and methods for the detection of substances (particularly particulate substances) within mail pieces, specifically letters and other “flats” of mail. In particular, the systems and methods are for the detection of residues of Chemical or Biological Warfare Agents (CBWAs) which may be present within the mail pieces. The system is principally designed to be included as part of Dual Pass Rough Cull System (DPRCS) for the collection and detection of the residue when the contaminated mail piece first enters a mail facility and before it is intermingled with other mail pieces.

Abstract: A method for automatically modifying the rendering of an image based on an analysis of pixel values within a selected region of interest. The method includes: providing a digital input image of digital pixel values and tone scale look-up table (LUT); creating a default rendered image by applying the tone scale lookup table to the input image; displaying the default rendered image; selecting a region of interest from the input image; computing the histogram of the pixel values within the region of interest; creating a bright light image by remapping the pixel values within the region of interest based on an analysis of the histogram and the tone scale table; wherein the tone scale lookup table has been adjusted by one or more of increasing or decreasing the overall contrast, and of reversing the polarity of the tone scale LUT; and overlaying the bright light image on default rendered image.

Abstract: Apparatus and method for determining relative and/or absolute axial position of a conduit end within a fluid coupling includes application of input ultrasonic energy in the form of transient shear waves and analyzing the reflected energy. Application of the input energy collected at different radial positions about a first axial location is used with wavelet based correlation techniques to better analyze the reflected energy signals. Quality of the abutment between the conduit end and a surface associated with the coupling may also be determined as a separate or combined feature of the axial position determination.

Abstract: System and method for logging significant events occurring at a web site portal includes a base class portlet service including a significant event catcher method having a register method and a record method, a portlet action table, and an action description table. The register method is called during portlet initialization to register one or more significant event descriptions to the action description table. The portlet, upon executing a significant event, calls the record method to record the event to the portlet action table.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product for scan testing a device under test (DUT). In one embodiment, compressed test data comprising packets are received at a serial test data input. The packets contain encoded data characterizing a test data bit stream and each includes a bucket select field and a fill value field. The bucket select field contains an bucket select value that maps to a length of a bit-string. The fill value field contains a fill value indicating the uniform binary value of the bit-string. The compressed test data is then expanded and the expanded test data is scanned into internal structures of the DUT to test internal structures of the DUT. In a preferred embodiment, the compressed test data is received at a first clock rate. The test data is expanded and scanned into the internal structures of the DUT at a second clock rate that is higher than the first clock rate.

Abstract: Adding relatively low molecular weight water-soluble friction loss reduction polymers to an aqueous fluid gelled with a viscoelastic surfactant (VES) increases the critical generalized Reynold's number at which the Fanning friction factor increases and friction pressure starts to increase rapidly. The water-soluble polymeric friction loss reduction additives lower surface pumping pressure in VES-gelled fracturing fluids for a given pump rate, thus lowering hydraulic horsepower (HHP) requirements for pumping fluids downhole, e.g. for hydraulic fracturing or frac packing treatments of subterranean formations.

Abstract: Communication networks and methods are disclosed that provide a supplemental content service. The supplemental content service provides synchronized supplemental content, such as media clips, to a user over a communication network (e.g., a mobile wireless network). A content provider offering a primary content stream (e.g., a television program) broadcasts the primary content stream to a content receiving device (e.g., a television) of the user. The content provider also generates supplemental content that is an enhancement to the primary content stream. If the user subscribes to the supplemental content service, then the communication network provides the supplemental content to the user through a communication device (e.g., a mobile phone) that is synchronized with the primary content stream. The user can then experience the supplemental content over the communication device at the same time as experiencing the primary content stream over the content receiving device.

Abstract: A fixed and portable, remote controlled moving target system to train shooters in marksmanship and correct target recognition comprising supported target assemblies on horizontal cables which are connected to vertical support assemblies. The targets are driven by an operator programmable, electronically controlled, computer based motor drive assembly. The targets are positioned by the operator inputs and the positions of the targets at start and during their movements behind an obscuring medium are programmed into the system. Once inputted into memory, the program can be replayed until it is overwritten. The targets exhibit humanoid movements owing to their unique suspension system and cable attachments.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a process for making homogeneous, thermoreversible gel films comprising the steps of: (i) heating, hydrating, mixing, solubilizing, and, optionally, de-aerating a high solids, low moisture film forming composition in an apparatus providing sufficient shear, temperature and residence time to form a homogeneous molten composition, wherein the temperature is at or above the solubilizing temperature of said composition; (ii) feeding the molten composition into at least one of a mixer, pump or devolatilizer; and (iii) cooling the homogeneous molten composition at or below its gelling temperature to form said gel films. The present invention is also directed to various products made from such films, such as the gel films themselves, soft capsules, solid dosage forms and delivery systems.

Abstract: A calibration procedure is carried out for determining the displacement distance from a reference point to the center of the blade in a web cutter in a mail inserter. A photosensor is placed near the paper plane of the web cutter to sense a web edge at the reference point downstream or upstream from the blade. At the start of the calibration procedure, the blade is caused to cut the web for providing a web edge. The web edge is moved in a backward and forward motion over the photosensor a few times for determining the theoretical center position of the photosensor relative to the position where the web is cut by the blade. By taking into account the chip-out width, the displacement distance from the center of the photosensor to the center of the chip out blade can be determined.

An error function is computed for comparisons between discrete data samples in the second dataset and the piecewise continuous representation of the first dataset. An alteration of the second dataset relative to the first dataset that minimizes the error function is determined.

Abstract: A method for producing hydrocarbons from subsurface formations at different depths is first provided. In one aspect, the method includes the step of heating organic-rich rock, in situ, within a subsurface formation at a first depth. The result of the heating step is that at least a portion of the organic-rich rock is pyrolyzed into hydrocarbon fluids. Preferably, the organic-rich rock of the subsurface formation of the first depth is oil shale. The method also includes providing at least one substantially unheated zone within the formation of the first depth. In this way, the organic-rich rock in that zone is left substantially unpyrolyzed. The method further includes drilling at least one production well through the unheated zone, and completing the at least one production well in a subsurface formation at a second depth that is deeper than the first depth. Thereafter, hydrocarbon fluids are produced through the at least one production well.
