  • Patent number: 9459194
Abstract: Apparatuses, methods, and systems are disclosed for analyzing particles from about 0.001 to about 1 ?m in diameter by controlling a gaseous medium through which the particles travel so that properties of the particles, such as diameter, electrical mobility, and charge, are measured. One embodiment of the disclosed apparatuses includes a particle source generator, a nozzle, a chamber, an electronic gate, and a detector. Resolution of the measurements made by the disclosed apparatuses is improved by use of a mathematical deconvolution of a spread in arrival times generated by particles of different sizes and charge levels and non-ideal background flow velocity variations.

  • Patent number: 9459164
Abstract: The present disclosure provides an optical sensing apparatus for measuring a change in a first property. The optical sensing apparatus comprises first and second optical fibre portions and a sensing region for exposing both the first and second optical fibre portions to a change in an applied force. The force is, or is related to, the first property and has a component that is transversal to the optical fibre portions. The apparatus further comprises a holder for holding the first and second optical fibre portions in the sensing region. The first and second optical fibre portions are arranged relative to each other such that the change in the force results in a first change of an optical property of the first optical fibre portion and in a second change of the optical property of the second optical fibre portion and wherein the first change differs from the second change.

  • Publication number: 20160286623
Abstract: Photocontrol apparatus that controls a luminaire or other load such that the luminaire is switched on during nighttime hours and off during the daytime. The photocontrol generates a micro-amp power supply using the voltage generated across a high value resistor in series with an alternating current (AC) power line. The photocontrol consumes only microwatts of power in either the ON or the OFF state, unlike traditional relay- or triac-based photocontrols. The photocontrol does not require a voltage generating photo sensor to generate power for the photocontrol. A solar cell, semiconductor photo diode or photo diode string, cadmium sulfide cell, semiconductor ambient light sensor, etc., may be used as the sensor element.
