Abstract: A device and method for automatically indicating an operating status of a defibrillator is provided. A defibrillator device includes a housing and a handle attached to the housing constructed at least partially of a light-transmitting material. A user interface is positioned within the housing that includes a plurality of controls thereon, with the plurality of controls enabling a user to control an operating status of the defibrillator device. A light source is positioned within the housing that is configured to illuminate the handle in one of a plurality of colors. The defibrillator device also includes a processor configured to determine the operating status of the defibrillator device and selectively control the light source to illuminate the handle in one of the plurality of colors based on the determined operating status of the defibrillator device.
