  • Patent number: 9318938
Abstract: An electric machine (100) comprises a stator (112) and a rotor (114a, b) mounted for rotation about a rotor axis (120) with respect to the stator. Permanent magnets (124a, b) are carried by the rotor. The rotor has an output (190). The stator has coils (122) wound on stator bars (116) for interaction with the magnets. The rotor has two stages (114a,b) arranged one at either end of the stator bars, with two air gaps (126a,b) between the ends of the bars and the rotor stages. An annular housing (102, 142a, b, 146) retains and mounts the stator. A bearing (164a, b) is between the rotor and stator, the rotor being hollow around said rotor axis. There are two significant magnetic flux paths (30,30?) of the motor. The first passes between adjacent coils in a circuit on a substantially circumferential plane with respect to the axis (120). A second path 30? is in an axial plane, passing around the bearing.

  • Patent number: 8707718
Abstract: An engine configured to drive a compressor of a vehicle air conditioning system is controlled based on a threshold condition. In at least one embodiment, a comfort-level selection is received, a threshold condition is determined based on the comfort-level, and a vehicle interior condition is detected. The engine is requested to run if the interior condition exceeds the threshold condition.

Date of Patent: April 29, 2014
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Elaine Y. Chen, William Treharne, Wayne Buescher, Thomas Fox
  • Patent number: 8151581
Abstract: Systems and methods to control an engine configured to drive a compressor of a vehicle air conditioning system having a desired temperature are provided. A time until a threshold is reached is determined based on an environment condition and a vehicle interior condition. A request for the engine to run is removed if the time is greater than a minimum time.

  • Publication number: 20070024244
Abstract: A system and method of controlling temperature of a vehicle power source. The method includes determining a representative temperature of the power source, determining an ambient zone in which the power source is operating, determining a thermal control action based on the representative temperature and the ambient zone, and adjusting the temperature of the power source based on the thermal control action.
