  • Publication number: 20110112988
Abstract: A portable communication apparatus and method includes a portable AM transmitter assembly and antenna operably connected for broadcasting an AM signal to standard automobile radio receiver, such as on a travel information station frequency of 1610 KHz. The system is particularly constructed for mobility, durability, simplicity and ease of use, making it well adapted for use in emergency situations as well as for the broadcast of general community or travelers information at fixed or temporary locations during nonemergency times. For example, the entire present assembly 20 can be constructed with a total weight of less than about 130 lbs, allowing it to be easily moved by individuals and by low-weight-capable small capacity vehicles such as planes or boats or pick-up trucks.

  • Patent number: 7027008
Abstract: An antenna system includes an electrical grounding system for a low power radio transmitter of a traveler's information station. The antenna system includes an elongated metal tube having a lower portion configured to be received in the ground and an upper portion adapted to support an antenna above ground. The tube includes an intermediate portion at a service height when the tube is positioned upright in the ground. The antenna system includes an antenna structure secured to the upper portion of the tube at least partially outside the tube. At least one elongated conductive ground member secured to a lower end of the tube and extends along an outside of the tube below ground, and within the tube above ground. The elongated ground member is coupled to the tube above the ground.

  • Patent number: 5495261
Abstract: A shortened electrical grounding system for use with a vertical antenna, particularly AM limited range information stations. The grounding system has a plurality of fractional wavelength electrically conductive members joined together and connected to the electrical ground of the transmitter associated with the antenna. The fractional wavelength electrically conductive members can be made of wire or metal panels both of which can be fanned out about the base of the vertical antenna in a substantially circular pattern. The electrical grounding system can be buried in the ground or can be used above ground as a counterpoise. The electrical conductors making up the ground system can also be incorporated into a mat made of plastic or other suitable material which can be positioned at the base of the vertical antenna.
