Patent number: 9505594Abstract: A platform lift trailer includes a chassis to which a lift device is mounted. The chassis is configured to be coupled to a standard motor vehicle trailer hitch or the like using a coupler. Some embodiments of the coupler provide protection against larges torsional forces applied between a motor vehicle and coupled trailer when they are angularly displaced relative to one another. One or more ground-engaging wheel assemblies are mounted to the chassis to assist in supporting the weight of the lift and any cargo thereon. The platform lift trailer is highly adaptable so that a wide variety of lifts can be mounted to the platform lift trailer and thus to smaller motor vehicles. Adaptation of mobility lifts and the like to a larger array of motor vehicles is therefore possible. One or more embodiments of a trailer coupler use torque-limiting apparatus so that vertical angular displacements of a motor vehicle and a coupled trailer do not apply large forces directly between the motor vehicle and the trailer.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 2014Date of Patent: November 29, 2016Assignee: Bruno Independent Living Aids, Inc.Inventors: Scott K. Uttech, William W. Belson, III, Andrew A. Bayer, Timothy G. Schwarz, Adam C. Hooper

Patent number: 8403615Abstract: A vehicle lift barrier is adapted to be mounted to vehicle lifts and the like that assist in loading and unloading cargo and provide a storage environment in which cargo is less likely to migrate from a cargo area into a passenger seating area or compartment. A barrier composed of a barricade is mounted to a vehicle lift, in some cases example by mounting the barrier to a generally vertical post, mast or the like or mounting the barrier to a lift platform, allowing the lift to operate normally while the barricade obstructs all or a substantial portion of the passage between the motor vehicle storage/cargo area and the passenger area. Where the barrier is mounted to a vertical post or the like on a vehicle lift, cut-out bracketing can be used to mate with the outer cross-sectional shape of the post to inhibit pivoting of the barrier about the post. Other bracket profiles can be used to enhance the barrier's protective advantages.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2009Date of Patent: March 26, 2013Assignee: Bruno Independent Living Aids, Inc.Inventors: Gerald P. Patent number: 5147106Abstract: A motor vehicle having a vertically openable access door includes a reinforcement bracket for each cylinder mounting. The bracket is bent to provide tortional and other force absorption capability. The bracket is also of sufficient size to cover the immediate area where a cylinder is mounted and any remote locations where forces may be applied through a moment arm created by rotation and exertion of a force on the vehicle by a cylinder. The cylinders may be hydraulically operated to effectuate opening and closing of the door.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1991Date of Patent: September 15, 1992Assignee: Michael Roman BrunoInventors: Robert D. Patent number: 5114120Abstract: An equipment mounting system includes a fixed leg and a second leg pivotable thereon. Equipment mounted at the free end of the second leg is pivotable to a position which is clear of a motor vehicle access location. When the mounting system is locked in a closed position, the equipment is operable. Further, whenever the mounting system is not locked in a closed position, one or more disabling devices prohibit operation of the equipment.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1989Date of Patent: May 19, 1992Assignee: Michael Roman BrunoInventors: Robert D. Patent number: 4991810Abstract: An adjustable support base for portable vehicle mounted equipment includes a perpendicular pair of support legs adjustable relative to one another. Each leg is adjustable in length and anchorable to the vehicle on which the equipment is being mounted. A plate mounting system is angularly adjustable and secures the vehicle mounted equipment to the base provided by the support legs.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 1989Date of Patent: February 12, 1991Assignee: Michael Roman BrunoInventors: Terry A.
